This was some research of previous The Winter’s Tale posters to help with ideas on creating my own. I preferred the posters that contained snow.

Carrying out this split/shatter research has really helped on developing my ideas. I have now factored this into my poster which has helped with the juxtaposition brief I chose because I can show elements of dark and light on each side of the split/shatter.

All of these photos are from The Royal Opera House trip. Inside there were posters from previous opera’s and ballets placed onto the walls in a colour order. These posters were very interesting to look at and I feel that some inspired me through the use of the bright colours.

Completing this worksheet was very helpful on developing my ideas further. I was able to create images that came to mind and then use those to help create 3 final images.

These images here are when I listened to The Winter’s Tale soundtrack. I had to draw to the music which I found to be very loud and fast. The music reminded me of swirls and bright colours so this is what I put into my drawings.

All of these here was me testing out different types of typography. I tested out many fonts and layouts to see which one I would prefer. I really liked the string lights so I made a few more variations with that one included. I did not like the outcome in the bottom left corner as I felt it was unclear to read as the letters were not in a straight line.

I do not like the results of this poster. My reason is because the castle looks like it is floating and does not belong there and I do not like the black lines I had drawn as they are poorly done and not positioned how I imagined.

I was not very happy with this outcome as I felt the split between them was too basic and the poster overall could have contained a lot more detailing.

This poster was created as a first idea and to then also be added into the posters that I decided to add a split or shatter too. I feel this could have been better if more detail was added.

I really like the way this poster is layed out but I feel the colours that I used for the background should have been different. I also left no space to add a title which I should have.

This poster here was another of my first ideas that would also be used for my shatter and split design. I like how this came out especially the trees and the sun detail. I am just not very proud of the snow. I feel it doesn't look very well done and slightly messy.

I really like the layout of this poster as I feel it is very different but i’m not sure the colours that I used for the background were the best option. I feel they slightly clash with the trees as they are similar colours. I also left no space for a title if I wanted to add one later.

This design was made on Illustrator using a clipping mask. I really like the results of this and I think adding a shadow makes the poster stand out more. The trees are bright which i’m happy with and I love how the background came out. I just think the snow could have been more detailed.

With this poster I am happy with the detail of the design but not the outside of it. I feel some colour should have been added instead of plain white and also some shadow to help it stand out more.

In this poster I added snowflakes to the sky to try and add some detail. I feel adding them didn’t add detail and the poster looks very basic. More detail should have been added to have a better result.

In this poster I really like the way I made the sun and also the snow falling. I feel the trees would have looked better if they had more detail. I also feel the snow looks very flat so adding texture to that would have improved the poster.

These here are the development of my trees throughout this project. The ones on the top left were the first ones I made. The colours were too basic and they didn’t have alot to them so I knew I wanted to change them. The shapes in the bottom left corner are the shapes that got put into my improved trees. The trees on the right have more colour and a better design which I am happy with.

The castle on the left was the first one I created. It had basic colour and no detail so I knew it needed to change. I then made a more detailed castle but in similar colours to the original one which I was happy with but I still knew I wanted a stone like texture. I then changed the colour and added various textures to each section and I was completely happy with the final result.

All three of these posters contain the same design but they all have different fonts for the title. I would say that my favourite is the middle piece. I like the way the word ‘Tale’ fits underneath ‘Winter and I just feel the fonts I used fit the poster well. The font on left is okay but i’m not very happy with the ‘The’. I feel it looks out of place. With the poster on the right I feel using the same font for ‘Winter’s’ and ‘Tale’ does not look as great as others. I also feel the font I used for ‘The’ is too bold and should not be used with the other font that I chose to go with it.

This here is my final piece. I am rather happy with how it turned out. I knew that on my final piece I wanted to have some element of a shatter or split so I made those by creating a clipping mask and then adding a shadow around the edge to help them stand out. I added a texture to the background and some snowflakes which I feel brought the poster together. For the title I used different fonts for each word which I felt made it look more interesting than using all the same font. I also added some colour behind the bottom font which makes the poster more eye catching. If I was to make this poster again I would have added more detailing to the designs inside of each shatter because I feel they look cartoon like and that was not in my plan.
