During bleeding Kansas,  people from both the North and the South went to Kansas with the intentions of making the state a free state or a slave state depending on whether the people were pro-slavery or anti-slavery. Kansas was a new state and left the states at an odd number meaning if they turned into a slave state, the pro-slavery people would benefit from it since they have a higher number of pro slave states. This new state contributed in a cycle of conflict because it caused the anti and pro slavery settlers to fight and even start a small civil war between themselves which is the main cycle of conflict that is seen between the people over and over again. He was in a free state while the person who “bought” him was in a different state so he wanted to take the opportunity to be free. During this event, the judge of this trial ended up deciding that African Americans were not citizens and therefore could not sue someone . This ended up creating a lot of tension between the North and the South. The judge was pro-slavery the South agreed with him but abolitionists did not support his decision at all. There was backlash and tension grew between the two people causing arguments and yet again we see the cycle of conflict of people disagreeing with each other because of their views on slavery. They were two groups of people contributing in the cycle of conflict which is again, people being unable to come to a decision of whether or not all states should be free or slave states and this cycle of conflict led to the event of the souths decision to secede. The election was between Lincoln, a republican and Douglas, a democrat. During their debates, Douglas would be representing the South while Lincoln represented the North. The main topic they debated over was slavery and whether or not it should be in every state or be abolished. Many people watched these debates they had since the outcome of the election would affect their lives drastically.
