Volleyball for most is just a sport, just a game. For most a win is just a number, just a tally to continue to build up. However this isn't the case for my interviewe, observing her play and this picture I belive truly tell the story and capture her quotes, She not only dedicates her time and determination to her team, a team which to some doesn't mean much but to her is her personal escape her way of control in a world where it feels as if sometimes control is so far from our own reach. Volleyball is a sport in which you have to work at and practice and doesn't come naturally to many. My interviewe has losses throughout her career but through those losses she's also chosen to continue and persevere helping her get to where she is now, Helping her see the just the amount of immense value a loss has as a win.

The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 created a major shift in how the United States viewed and handled immigration. Before the attacks, immigration was mostly seen as a topic related to economic opportunity, labor, and basic border control. People came to the United States for jobs, education, or family reasons, and the government mainly focused on processing visas and managing the border. After 9/11, however, immigration suddenly became closely connected to national security. Many Americans feared future attacks, and the government felt pressure to respond quickly. As a result, new laws, new systems, and stricter rules were created. These changes affected not only people trying to enter the country but also immigrants who had already been living in the U.S. for years. The purpose of this research proposal is to explore how immigration regulations changed after 9/11 and how these changes shaped the experiences of immigrant communities and American society overall.

The main research question for this study is: How did U.S. immigration regulations change after the 9/11 attacks, and what effects did these changes have on policy, security, and immigrant experiences? This question will guide the entire project and help focus the research on both the specific policies and their real life consequences.

There are four main objectives in this research. The first objective is to identify the major immigration policies that were introduced after 9/11. Many rules and systems were created quickly, and understanding them is important. The second objective is to explain why the government argued that these changes were needed for national security. The third objective is to look at how these changes affected immigrant communities, especially Muslim, Arab, and South Asian groups, who experienced the biggest impact. The fourth objective is to understand the long-term influence of these new policies and how they changed immigration enforcement in later years.

The background of this topic shows how dramatically the system changed. One of the biggest adjustments after 9/11 was the creation of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in 2002. This department took over immigration responsibilities from the old Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). DHS then divided immigration work among three new agencies: U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). These agencies focused strongly on security and enforcement. New laws, such as the USA PATRIOT Act and the Enhanced Border Security and Visa Entry Reform Act, also played a major role. They increased government surveillance, tightened visa rules, and forced federal agencies to share more information. Programs like the National Security Entry Exit Registration System (NSEERS) required men from mostly Muslim majority countries to register with the government, be fingerprinted, and complete interviews. Many people criticized these policies as unfair and discriminatory.

This study will use a qualitative method, analyzing government documents, academic articles, policy studies, and news reports. By comparing pre-9/11 and post 9/11 policies, the research will show how immigration became more focused on security. The expected outcome is that the study will reveal both the intended effects, such as better security coordination, and the unintended effects, including discrimination and reduced trust within immigrant communities.
