In the winter we love going to outdoor light shows together! This year we went to the "Bronx Zoo Light Show" and "The Luminocity Festival" at Eisenhower Park! Any time I can be outside with my family is my favorite!

Several family members bake their favorite cookies throughout December. Then on Christmas Eve, we gather as a family to read the Christmas story, sing carols, open gifts, and enjoy all of the cookies for dessert! In the winter my family celebrates Christmas. Every Christmas Eve, we wrap a bunch of small gifts in a big seran wrap ball and play this game! It always makes our family laugh during the game, and then every member of our family leaves with a small gift.

Every winter I host my whole family at my house for Christmas. About 20 people come over for dinner and we always play White Elephant with gift cards. That is when you give a gift to someone, but others can trade and take it!

My favorite family tradition is decorating the Christmas tree. We have ornaments going back to 1980 that tell the story of our family. We get an ornament for every milestone, memory, and vacation. We love to recall our family’s best moments while decorating that tree. We do it with the whole family with cookies and Christmas music!

Every year on Christmas, my family comes over to my house and we play a game called Grab Bag.We buy a gift and put them in the center of the rug. Every person picks a number and the lowest number goes first. Then they pick a gift and unwrap it. They can keep it unless another person steals it from them. You can take from another person on your next turn and trade the gift you had and did not like with a gift the other person had and you can get a gift you like better. Once everyone has picked twice the game is over but everyone leaves with one great gift or one funny gift!🎁 🎁🎁

Baking holiday cookies for friends and family

Every year we bake holiday cookies for our friends and family. We started this tradition in Covid, when we couldn't really see people up close, so we decided we'd bake our favorite holiday cookies and delivere them in our neighborhood. Since then it has become a tradition! We love baking them and decorating. For Ahren and Anika, apart from eating them, they love to deliver the cookies to their friends. It's fun and gets us into the holiday spirit of giving!

Every year my family goes to the Jones Beach light show. We always bring my dogs, Remy and Bailey. This year we brought Luke! He loved looking out the window and seeing all of the colorful lights.

Every year we celebrate Christmas Day in Long Beach. After eating a big meal, we bundle up and take a walk on the boardwalk. The kids play football on the beach. I look forward to the company, beautiful scenery and fresh air.

This tradition started with my grandmother, was continued by my mother, and now I enjoy sharing this tradition with my boys. After we bake the cookies we watch holiday Christmas specials on TV together. This is a special childhood memory that I love to continue.

Every December, we love finding a new Christmas tree in the city to take a family picture in front of. It's always an adventure with the crowds, but the music and lights make it so exciting and joyful! This year, we found this beautiful tree in an art museum called The Met. Every ornament was an angel!

We love the holiday season! Every year we go to the light show and after Thanksgiving we spend time together decorating our Christmas tree. We love to explore different Christmas events. We also do a lot of baking, cooking and Christmas movie watching! Some of our favorites include The Polar Express, Elf and The Grinch!

Every winter we play lots of family Charades by the fire place. Snowman shaped pancakes and hot chocolate for breakfast on Christmas morning is a must! Lastly we capture a family photo for memories by the Christmas tree. “Santa” also makes an appearance yearly.

Family Meals

During the holiday season, we get together to celebrate over amazing meals. On Christmas Eve, we always have sushi for dinner. On Christmas morning, I'm always in charge of breakfast! Christmas Day lunch is celebrated with the Greek side of our family and includes traditional Greek dishes such as spanikopita and baklava. Finally, Christmas Day dinner is with the Scottish/Polish side of the family and we always have kielbasa and shortbread. Each meal is shared with family and it's wonderful to spend so much time with the people we love! I'm always reminded of what my Grammy said: "My riches are the love of all of my family."

The Goodman family’s holiday season is always filled with family time. Along with our traditional Christmas dinner of “Grandma’s” lasagna and pignolata dessert (Italian honey balls), each year something new is added as our family grows. At the end of the night, we all gather together for our BIG family Christmas photo!
