Chaucer's Friar: A Portrait of Immorality

In the essay, Chaucer's Friar: A Portrait of Immoralty, the author takes a point against the Friar claiming that he is a man of very low moral standards. The author begins by explaining that the narrator described him to be a snob, computed by greed, and that he acts in un-Christian ways to prove that he is corrupt in nature. I agree with the author in this scenario because the Friar clearly shows that he is corrupt by selling religious "favors" to people. In that time period, the sale of these was considered corrupt clergy by all. Furthermore, he performs many other acts and fraternizes with the rich rather than the poor, leading us to believe that he is, in fact, a man of low moral standards.
