         <description><![CDATA[<div>I think we need to do a better job of letting our students know that we are accepting, inclusive, and equitable.  We often talk about these topics at PD but we haven't communicated to our students, as a broader school community, that we are accepting or inclusive.  <br><br>Imagine being a student of color in our building and having very few staff members of color to look up to. <br><br>Imagine being a young gay or trans student in our building. .  . There are no rainbow ally stickers on doors (a common sight in middle schools and high schools), no trans or otherwise lgbtq people represented in our curriculum, and no openly LGBTQ teachers. <br><br>Imagine being a non-Christian fourth grade student and your only field trip for the year is going to see "A Christmas Carol" so you are unable to attend.<br><br>We definitely hold values of inclusivity and acceptance in our district.  And I think that there are individuals who do a great job of demonstrating acceptance and inclusivity. However, we haven't done enough as a larger school community to signal to our students that we hold these values. <br><br>Perhaps it is time to create a school based committee to put these values into action. <br><br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>
