The song was released in 1971. Lennon wrote it alongside his wife, Yoko Ono where they express their emotions on the Vietnam War. They pled for a better world where people live in peace and unity. Music experts and even myself believe that the message of the song “has remained important and relatable through the years.” , Lennon was asking us to imagine a place where the things that divide us, like religion and possessions, did not exist. He felt that would be a much better place.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6svOHFSAH8

Tim O'brien is a soldier in the Vietnam war perspective on the war is that it brings guilt and regret on page 173 " I returned with my daughter to Vietnam, Where we visited the site of Kiowas death, and where I looked for signs of forgiveness or personal grace or whatever else the land might offer" Tim never forgot about the times he was in war his guilt and regret never left him and never left any of the soldier for instance Kiowa was on of his fellow soldiers and same as another soldier Bowker. When Kiowa had died Bowker blamed himself and later on in the future he hung himself. Tim wrote a chapter on how his guilt and regret had eaten him up inside. What we learned from this book is that everyone has guilt all that matters how you react to that guilt you could ethier have it take over you or put it aside.

Richard Flacks Co founder of SDS otherwise known as students for a democratic society. He was asked to describe the time? "The draft was an expression of this militaristic, imperial power that we were opposed to. I was in the early founding of the Students for a Democratic Society. We thought we were responsible for having to have an antiwar movement. We thought the demonstrations of larger numbers of people would have an effect on policy, and that was perhaps naïve. A new lever that SDS perceived for a change of the policy was people being forced to fight the war had the opportunity to resist it. It was a strategic kind of effort: We who were in opposition to the war, if we ourselves refused to fight, and got other people to refuse to fight, the policy would have to be reexamined."
https://time.com/3676805/vietnam-antiwar-activists-reflect/

When asked how did he get involved in the war he said " I was one of those poor white draftees. I was neutral with the war, until I got drafted. My first day out in the field in Vietnam our point man got wounded by a nine-year-old kid, and I thought, So that’s the enemy? I was in the field three weeks when I got wounded the first time. The third time I spent nine and a half months in the hospital. I had shrapnel in my brain and was not supposed to survive. But I did.
