The beggining of English Language

History of English began with the invasion of the Scandinavians tribes: The Jutes, Saxos, Anglos and Celts. Languages were inflected by Case, Gender, Person and Tense. It has the influence of Latin, German, Russian,Greek, French and some others Indo-European languages. Their need of survival increased the need of a common media of communication.

400AD-1100AD: Old English

The first Stage of English: Old English. By 400 AD, they had already developed a single language with the inflections of the former languages. During the Norman Conquest, French language was brought to England and enriched Old English with more vocabulary and inflections. French was the official language of England for this period of time. The commons spoke Old English while the royalty spoke French and the official matters and all the bureaucracy aswell. There was not an official body to rule Old English. It was used completely arbitrary and was transformed by users to an easier language to understand.

Middle English

As a result of the structural changes, Middle English was developed. English was declared as the official language of England. Many inflections has been dropped during the 350 French was the official language.

The Dark Age was over, 15th Century is the Renaissence. People was permitted to learn how to read and write, Arts were freely sponsored, The Reform gave people freedom of religion.

Third Stage: Modern English

16th Century was the beginning of Modern English. Printing press was invented, in 1525 AD, William Tyndale published the first printed translation of the New Testament. The following 90 years were the Golden Age of English Literature culminating in the famous plays of Mr. William Shakespeare. In 1611, King James published his own version of the Bible.

Standarization of words and meaning

Samuel Johnson wrote the First Dictionary in 1755 AD.

Lindlay Murray wrote the First Grammar Book in 1795 AD and also in 1804 AD, published the first Spelling Book. It helped standardize English spelling and grammar and made literature more accessible to the general public.

English is a Living Language

English is a Living Language as it is in continous changing. New words are adopted in all the fields of work and education. It is in constant spread because of the migration of English speakers to other countries.
