My relationship with reading is complicated. What I mean by complicated is that I have to be in the right mood to read and on top of that the material I read has to be relevant and interesting. If neither of those things are there reading feels like a chore and is unappealing. When I read, I typically read scientific articles related to muscle hypertrophy and strength. Whether its dieting or training methods I find both of those topics very relevant and helpful to my journey within the gym. I also read emails, texts, and social media posts. I typically just use my laptop to read with no additional tools. I do read scientific journals on occasion when I have a question. But reading such complicated articles is hard for me because I don't understand it to a full extent so there is some disconnect.

My relationship with writing is pretty standard. I don't hate writing or even dislike writing assignments, especially if it's about a topic that interests me. What I typically write currently only consists of text messages to friends and family, emailing people, and now school assignments. I take notes in all of my classes. One thing I’ve started writing in college is a daily task lists with homework, personal goals, class schedules, and what subject I feel I should study. For my major/potential career I take notes in all of my classes in hopes to get good grades and perform well to get into Med school.

As of right now, I would say my relationship with reading and writing is kind of all over the place. For reading, I don't really have a relationship other than a distant relationship if you could say. I don't normally like to read as I don't get much interest in it. I find reading somewhat boring when I'm reading a book or text that I'm not interested in at all. The genre that I'm most interested in when reading is dystopian books. I've always liked The Hunger Games series as well as Brave New World. I don't really use tools when reading, but maybe annotating can be a tool. As a history major, I do know that reading has a lot to do within my career. So, my relationship with reading will start to be more often and become stronger. However, with writing I can say my relationship is much better. I’ve always enjoyed writing because I think it comes easier to me and I find it enjoyable to do so. I don't necessarily write out of nowhere, I only write when I have a topic to do so on for a project or something similar. When I do write, it's usually always taking notes. Writing my notes helps me retain the information my professor is lecturing to the class. When writing, a tool I've constantly used has been word count to know where i’m at. and As well as reading, writing also correlates with my history major. I believe that writing will be more on the easier side than reading when it comes to my career.

My relationship with reading is mixed. I like reading but I don't. It all depends on my mood and what I am reading about. If the reading is interesting and relatable, then I love reading. But, if the reading is boring and hard to understand, then I hate reading. So I have both positive and negative associations with reading. I read comic books and graphic novels since they are easier for me to visualize and understand and are more interesting. But I am also "forced" to read my textbooks. I think I sometimes like reading things related to my major since they apply to the real world in an economic standpoint. I also think they are interesting since the business and economic world is very complex and how specific activities can affect the world. My relationship with writing right now is no very good since I am not confident in my writing. However, I hope to improve it during my time at UWP7. I write/type notes, and text, and write when necessary like for an assignment. I use Google Docs to write and goodnotes to take notes. I have not experienced much writing related to my major since it is my first quarter, however, so far the notes that I have taken for my major are not bad.

My connection with reading has been so far a positive association. I like to read all different kinds of topics because it brings joy and positivity to me. I learn and hear different types of topics that expand my knowledge which is one thing why I enjoy reading. All though there may be times a topic may not interest me so I force myself to read. I hate this feeling because I am wasting time instead of reading something I actually enjoy. The books I enjoy most are comic books. I am a visual learner so I understand better when I am able to vision. The tools I consider while reading are, annotating, circling, and questioning throughout the story to get a better comprehension. Since college mostly signifies how reading is an important factor, I try my very best at reading anything to expand my learning. It shows how reading makes a positive impact on your growth. When it comes to reading something that involves my major, I have a better relationship because it is something that catches my attention since it's something that I am going to pursue. During high school, reading never interest me as much because I was never reading a topic that involved my career or something related. It was mostly, history, english, etc. I still managed to take notes and find ways to set my mind focus on the reading even though it did not really catch my attention. Overall, I want to make a huge significance on my progression.

My relationship with reading is good. I love reading so many books in my free time. I usually read novels all the way to thrillers. I don't really use tools when reading. Maybe with school reading I use pens and highlighters to annotate. With the career I want to be in i read a lot of nutrition books and chemistry books to help me better understanding of what I'm learning. My relationship with writing is that it's a great source for me to express myself. More specifically journaling is my favorite form of writing. The tools i use for writing are just a journal. Within my major and career path it's a lot of chemistry and or science writing.

My current relationship with reading is 50/50. I don't usually do reading unless I have to and some of the times it school related and they don't usually interest me that much. However if it's a book that has an interesting story that dives into like action, mystery, horror, or real life events I will be really locked into it. For reading tools, I would usually prefer someplace quiet and dark to focus more and enjoy the reading. I need to highlight something important then I would use some sort of highlight tool, but I usually just read through and scroll using my laptop. But overall I can enjoy reading book, its just depends on the context, if its school related then no, but if its for fun then yes. However my relationship with writing is good, I enjoy writing more than reading and part of it because I enjoy coming up with ideas on what to write and how my brain clicks easily to something. Im at my best in writing when I am able to create a story from off the top of my head because not only is it my best work sometimes but also it also has some deep meaning to it and I think it'll allow whoever is reading it to reflect on a topic and even admire the story even more. But overall, I would say writing is a positive for me and reading a neutral. Outside of writing stories, reading notes is a positive because I can pick up on things quickly and if I put time down to reread and summarize it in my own words then I am good. However when writing down notes it is a positive, my handwriting isn't the greatest and makes it hard to understand what I wrote and puts me a spot where I am stuck and need to rewrite everything in a more legible writing form.

My relationship with reading is varied. I enjoy reading when I am familiar with the topic or I have an interest in it because it makes the reading more engaging. However, I find reading to be a tedious process when the text is boring. This is usually when I am reading something coming out of a textbook. By choice, I like to read mystery novels or articles about celebrities I look up to. Often times in high school, I used to use Spark Notes to help me understand parts of a text that were hard to follow. I usually used this for books that were written in old English because the meaning wasn't as clear. In relationship to my major, reading doesn't play a large role in it considering that I am a math major, however, I do still think it is important to better my reading and critical thinking skills regardless if I were to use it in my future career. Writing on the other hand, I feel as though I have a better relationship with. While with reading, it is easy to zone out and forget everything that you've read, writing is more engaging and present in the moment. This makes it easier to be more involved in the assignment. I find myself leaning towards a writing assignment over a reading assignment if I had the choice. I enjoy writing literacy journal entries because I think it is a good way to reflect on something and get all your thoughts out on a paper. To aid me with my writing, I use Grammarly for help with punctuation as well as grammatical errors. With regards to how writing relates to a potential career, it doesn't play a large role for math majors, but is still used to take notes for all my classes.

My current relationship with reading right now is not the best. Whenever I do some sort of reading, it's usually homework or I'm forced to read. It’s always felt like a chore to me because its usually related to school, whether its annotations or in-class independent reading. The tools that I use when I read are usually annotation tools like highlighting or underlining. For my major, I don't know if reading plays a big role, but reading is everywhere so it’s something that I will have to keep improving. My current relationship with writing is mixed, I love and hate writing at the same time. If it's an opportunity for me to write whatever I want and to be creative. Or when I'm texting or communicating with people, that’s when I like writing. But if it’s a boring assignment where I have to just follow a rubric with a format, then it's something that I wouldn’t enjoy. Some tools that I use when writing are Google Docs or Grammarly. For my major, I will mostly be using writing to take notes.

As of right now I would say that my relationship with reading is 50/50. I never hated reading but if I had to read something for a class I wouldn't have minded it because I enjoy reading from here to there. I love to read to short stories because I find them to be very engaging and easy to understand. I do not use any tools when I read but if I have a hard time understanding I will use annotating as a tool. My major is Political Science and for my major there is a lot of reading required so I feel like as I read more and more for my classes I will become a better reader and enjoy reading more than I do now. My relationship with writing as of now is positive because I have had many classes where you had to write a lot so I do not mind writing at all. I do not write about anything on my free time but when I do write it is usually something for a class or me taking notes for a class. For writing the only tools I like to use are Grammarly and spell check tools because they help improve my grammar and spelling. For my major writing is also a very key part of it and for one of my classes right now I have 3 essays and all of them are 1,000 word requirements so I am going to be writing a lot for my classes. My goal is to become a better writer and reader before I graduate and pursue my career.

My relationship with reading right now is good. I actually do like to read but it isn't really my first option of what I would do in my free time. In order for me to pick up a book and read, I would need to be in the right mindset. The right mindset is important to me because it helps me focus on the book for a long period of time and not get distracted. I like to read romance and drama books mostly. It's also hard for me to finish books at times because I finally stop reading in the middle and forget what happens and don't want to reread everything or I get bored easily. I feel like as an economic major, there would be a lot of reading needed to understand the concept of economics. My relationship with writing isn't bad or good. It's pretty mixed because it depends on what type of writing I'm doing. If I'm writing for an assignment that I don't have interest in, then it feels like a task to finish my work. I don't often like to write for homework assignments because I find it hard to write a good piece that I feel confident in. I do like to write in my journals of different experiences. I do like to write out my notes. I like to keep my notes organized and it's pretty calming to do. I usually write down notes either on paper or on my laptop, I like to color code or have different ways to separate things like underline or dots. I use google doc to write my notes on my laptop. In economics, I would take notes in economic classes for me to do good on tests and for future reference when needed.

As of right now, my relationship with reading has been slowly declining because of the lack of time and motivation I have. It is hard for me to find time to sit down and read a book without having to think about other things I have to finish first. I have both positive and negative associations with reading. With an interesting book I choose to read on my own, I would enjoy reading. However, with textbooks or long readings assigned to me, I feel less motivated to read because I have no choice whether I want to or not. It is especially unmotivating if I have no interest in the topic at all and am just forced to finish it. When I do read, I usually reach for mystery novels or romcom books. In relation to being an economics major, I think that reading will definitely play a role through strategizing and analyzing data.

My relationship with writing is better than my relationship with reading. I mostly have positive associations with writing because writing allows me to put all my thoughts down somewhere, which can help organize my mind. The only negative association I have with writing is getting assigned long essays on a topic I have no knowledge of. Right now, I mainly write notes for my classes but I also occasionally journal in my free time. I use a mix of google docs and writing on paper to take notes. In relation to economics, writing will be useful for explaining ideas and note taking.

My current relationship with reading could be described as healthy or perfect as I can read any text without being completely set off track by either the words or the dictionary of words within that book or piece of text. I mostly like to read fiction books such that allow myself to be drawn out of my world and placed into the world set in the book and that for is very refreshing as a lot of times that can help me not stress as much with any assignments, work, or otherwise that I have as I can just let myself go in this world. As I read I do not really use any tools as I mostly let my mind and eyes read the text and store that information, I allow my mind to store that information in a way that I can properly remember it an think about it for later on. I believe reading will be very useful in my potential career as I would want to become a Biotechnician in where I would be needed to read and analyze a bunch of data and research texts written by multiple people. So this can be a great assist in my future. My relationship with writing is healthy as well as I can be free to write out or type out a lot of text without getting the feeling of being overwhelmed. I mostly write out notes for my lectures or what I need to study and text my friends when I need to but other than that I do not write a lot. I believe writing would also be a great assist in my potential career as I would need to analyze and type out a bunch of data and send it to my coworkers for analyzation.

Growing up I loved reading so much that I would read while walking in busy streets, but now I barely pick up books. I used to seek books out and read whatever YA dystopian novel I could find, and while I maintained the same genre of interests I was never able to bounce back into my reading habits as a child. I mourn this now as my friends chat about the books they've read and the books they hope to buy, because I know that with the new habits I've built will interfere with my attention span and fear of missing out on anything happening while I am reading a book. I don’t think negatively of reading, but it has definitely become more of a “chore” ever since Middle school when we were expected to read books that did not interest us or to read long papers with intimidating academic formats. In slight contrast, my relationship with writing has only grown as I have drastically improved from when I was that age. Compared to reading, I had more practice with writing and enjoyed it far more as it was a tactile art form that allowed me to express myself in ways I wouldn't out loud or with drawing. I love writing my own stories or stories of myself which is something I have a lot of experience with now that I text every single day about what is happening in my life. I hope that in the future I will have rekindled my passion for reading and honed my writing skills to a professional but also artistically.

My Relationship With Reading and Writing

Currently with reading, I have an on and off relationship. I try to read every night before I sleep but I am inconsistent. Typically, I try to read books that provide advice. This includes advice both physically and mentally. With writing, I have always had negative emotions regarding the subject. I always find writing boring, tedious, and time-consuming. Hopefully, my outlook changes throughout the duration of the course. I am a math major and writing isn’t the biggest necessity in the world for it technically speaking. However, as much as I don’t like writing, I think it is one of the most important skills to have in the world. It is essential for communication and has many importances in the workforce. When I do write, I write about anything on my mind that is bothering me. However, this doesn’t happen often since I am not that fond of writing. Writing out whatever is bothering me definitely helps out dealing with situations.

Reading for knowledge, writing for connection

My current relationship to reading right now is usually one of academic or scientific significance. I rarely read fiction, but rather educational books or papers. I am really passionate about climate research for instance, so I tend to read interesting papers on tipping points, climate trends, or regenerative technologies in the space. On a flip side, I also enjoy nonfiction through history. For example, one book I finished recently was about the history of cosmology and how that effected our culture through the ages, and my currently book is about geography's effect on developing civilizations. Of course I read for my classes and daily life, but the majority of my reading time for fun is based on nonfiction works that catch my interest. It likely has something to do with the satisfaction of having a topic click finally that I have been wondering about.

My relationship to writing is significantly different. When producing work, I as exited to share knowledge from my reading or classes many a time. Yet, most of my writing for fun is almost all for people (including me.) I write letters to my friends back home, to update them on my life in a more comfortable way. I think a letter feels more significant to a text conversation since its a physical document with a stamp and everything, rather then a convenient short form data point. In general I think I enjoy longform content more, and that likely plays into my fondness for letters. Moreover, I journal for myself in a similar pursuit of emotional wellness. Journaling helps me keep track of myself in a more realistic (as opposed to rose-tinted) was. You may notice that both of these formats are hand written, and that would even be the same for my notes in classes. I think the tactile feel of writing helps me remember better, and such its my choice of format across writing purposes.

Reading Is Hard.

Growing up, I hated reading with my entire heart. It was difficult for me to stay focused on the books I was assigned to read, and school curriculum books were always boring to me. However, over the summer, for the first time, I bought a few books of my interest, and got very invested in them. I read about different mindsets, the psychology of how to get to know a person on a deeper level, the art of empathy, and so on. It blew my mind how much I enjoyed reading them. I then realized that when you are not being forced to read a boring book, reading can be quite pleasant. When I read the books over the summer, I liked re-reading specific chapters that I found most interesting. In terms of reading in relation to my major, I think it will take me some time to get used to reading about Agricultural Development in third-world countries, but I am sure I will get the hang of it. When it comes to writing, I tend to stay away from it as much as possible. I have so many thoughts running around in my head but have a hard time putting them on paper. My only associations with writing are essays. Essays are the worst. I don’t necessarily have the tools to write any assignments. I write what I think and that is pretty much it. In terms of writing regarding my major, I like it, the writing requires a lot of critical thinking skills, which I enjoy.

My relationship with reading can go both ways. On one hand, I love reading for fun and as a way to destress after a long day. The types of books I usually read are romance and fantasy books. I can get sucked into a book and time would fly by like nothing. On rare occasions, it can get in the way of my daily activities because sometimes I would drop everything I have to do for the day just so I can finish the book in one sitting. On the other hand, I do not like reading anything I am not interested in. It takes me longer to comprehend and read something I have to for a school assignment than when I read something I find interest in. Therefore, I associate reading with both positive and negative emotions. It just depends on what I am reading. I don’t use any sort of tools to read, I usually just read on my phone. Sometimes I highlight and comment on certain parts I like in the book, but most of the time I do not do anything to the text. When it comes to writing, I do not like it very much. It could change during college, but at the moment it is something I do not enjoy doing. I never really liked writing growing up because it had always been difficult to put my thoughts on paper and make it structured in a way that sounds good and professional. It also always felt like a chore and something I have to do. In relation to my major, I do not think I have to do a lot of writing except for notes and lab reports. I hope that my relationship with writing can change in the future and I will eventually like it and be good at it.

My relation with reading has been far but positive. Being in high demand reading classes all of high school, it felt like a chore and it continues to be like that especially since fiction is the only true interesting thing I want to read, if I had to choose. But since it's mostly articles, non-ficition, etc. I just grow away from reading. Which I will admit ultimately made me more of a STEM based student and can be seen in my career choice. (my major being biological systems engineering). I mean I will admit occasionally I will read an article but only if it's something that makes the news and is tragic to invoke interest. But with writing, I think I could write whenever. I could write anything if I were interested in it, I just think my confidence in academic writing has been broken. Because narratives is what I love to do, writing freely, it's interesting to just write what I think. I don't need tools to write, only if they were graded I guess. In my career I will have to write lab reports, and general reports so I do have to practice that to be precise.

My mixed feelings about reading and writing

My relationship with reading right now depends mostly on what book I'm reading. If it's a book that I'm truly interested in, I would be motivated to finish it in one sitting, even though I probably wouldn't, that's the mindset I would have. Nevertheless, if it was a book I had no interest in whatsoever, I wouldn't have any real motivation to read it and I would put it off for as long as possible. As of now, I like to read dystopian fiction books where the main character is fighting against some type of corrupt government because I find those plots very interesting. For my major of statistics, close reading is very important to understand what type of statistical test or inference method to use, and I'm usually pretty good with that. My relationship with writing has mostly been better than my reading, and I mostly have positive associations with it regardless of whether it was an assigned essay or a fun piece of writing. I mostly enjoy writing research/argumentative nonfiction papers because I'm giving my audience the true facts about a certain topic. For my writing, I usually follow a drafting format in which I write at least two drafts before my final piece of writing, accompanied with peer feedback to help me progressively improve each draft. For a research paper, I use my local libraries' databases to find reliable sources for my claims, as well as the MLA citation format for all the sources that I choose to utilize.

My relationship with writing and reading is interesting. There are certain situations where reading and writing is a fun and relaxing thing to do while other times it can feel draining and painfully boring. I think for me, my relationship with reading and writing are mainly negative rather than positive. There have been too many times where my teacher would assign countless hours of boring reading assignments and paragraphs and essays that needed to be written with a specific guideline and word count. I remember back in elementary and sometimes even middle school where I was allowed to let my imagination roam free with fiction and writing stories. Enjoying novels of fiction and adventure with a slice of mystery. But once it got to high school, it was nothing but tedious work. I know it’s not their fault for having us do these things but nonetheless, it was still boring to do. For tools that I would use during reading and writing, I think it would depend on what kind of reading it is and what sort of writing I had to do. For reading, it would be easier for me to read if it was in a quiet and dimly lit area. For writing, I prefer to type more than using pens and papers. I think reading and writing plays an important role in my major of psychology, it would be best for me not to totally hate it. It might be later on when I have to go and do research on my papers or even read through other psychologists’ work to get the information I need.
