I found it interesting that industry leaders gathered to promote responsible business conduct in New Delhi as a part of an ILO workshop. This was to promote sustainable and ethical practices. It was held as a part of ILO's project on the promotion of decent work in business operations for fairness and dignity in every level of the organisation. So, ILO indeed focuses on the standards of decent work for men and women on an international level. In this case, they focused on the leaders perhaps since leadership is crucial for bringing policy changes and the implementation of those policy changes in a speedy fashion.

SEWA and the Power of Cooperatives

In many countries, care work for children, the elderly, or the sick is mostly done by women. This work is often unpaid and not properly valued. At a global conference in New Delhi, speakers shared how cooperatives can help improve care and support the workers who provide it.

Cooperatives are groups formed by workers or community members who come together to provide services and make decisions jointly. Everyone shares the responsibilities, profits, and benefits.

In India, the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) is helping women domestic workers form care cooperatives. These groups give women better wages, job security, and respect for their work—especially where government support is limited.

Similar models are working in other countries too. The main message was that when people organize together, care becomes more fair, inclusive, and effective. But to succeed, cooperatives need strong support from both communities and governments.

Cooperatives offer a hopeful way to build a society that values care and those who provide it.

India faces an urgent need to ensure these workers are covered under social security frameworks.

Reflections on the cases of Tuberculosis and HIV infected workers in Gujarat

There has been an effort made by ILO and Indian Government to increase awareness on HIV and TB in those working in informal sector in Gujarat. Awareness camps, workshops, links to public healthcare clinics are being set up in order to give timely treatment to those who are unaware of these illnesses and their symptoms and continue to work. However while pondering on it, I think it is necessary that the public healthcare system and it's resources must in itself be bettered for the workers who cannot access private healthcare and private healthcare must be made accessible for minority communities working in these sectors for good treatment.

The article chosen was about the impact project under ILO and its collaboration with farmers in the cotton supply chain to promote decent work through mainstreaming fundamental principles and rights at work. There were 60 suppliers involved to take responsibility to proactively ensure social compliance across their supply chain, starting at farmers level, so the aim of the meeting was decent work and sustainable cotton supply chain.

With respect to the mission - it aligns with fundamental principles and rights at work. It works in line with 2030 goals of ILO - to make way for full productive employment and decent work for all.

Decent work also includes achieving targets of sustainable development.

Reflection: Meetings and conferences actively work towards achieving goals of 2030, and focus on sectors usually forgotten.
