I hope you are all had fun over the long weekend and enjoyed the sunshine. I am missing seeing you all but I love getting your pictures and recordings.

I had a lovely weekend with my family. We had our first BBQ of the summer and it was delicious. As a special treat I made banoffee pie. It was my first time making it but it was delicious. Do you like banoffee pie?

To keep fit and active I have been doing a lot of walking and running inside my 2km of course. I am excited that we can now go a little bit further now and explore up to 5km from our houses. On Saturday and Sunday, the people here in Mayo were celebrating Mayo Day, I celebrated by taking part in a run for charity and wearing my Mayo colours. Everybody who took part in the run stayed within their 2km and did it any time they liked. Is there a Kilkenny day?

Have you all seen the changes in the season? It is now summer. I have loved watching the trees grow their leaves again and everything grow green. I have also noticed how loudly the birds are singing each day which is lovely. Every evening I can hear the cuckoo in my garden. Have you ever heard the cuckoo?

Here is a picture of two ducks that are living in the drain in front of my house. I would like to give them names. Have you any suggestions?

·         You need at least 2 players. 

·         Take it on turns to create a sentence which makes sense

·         Try to use as many words/ parts of speech as possible

·         Keep the cards they used to make a sentence (it has to make sense) 

·         When all the cards have been used or it is no longer possible to create another sentence the person with the most cards win. 

v  To make the game more difficult introduce a set time allowed to create the sentence

(Note: Encourage the children to help cut out the words or write them out on coloured paper and to discuss what type of word it is e.g. an adjective is a describing word like fluffy.

About this activity: You can adapt this activity to fit any spelling pattern (phonics sound) or "rules" that your child is learning or having difficulty with. Students list the spelling patterns (phonics sound) on a sheet and then take part in a scavenger hunt to find words that fit the rules- books, magazines, newspapers, etc. 

1.       Discuss the sound/ spelling pattern or "rules" that is being learnt or revised). Remember not all words follow rules i.e. tricky words.

This is a great activity for any sounds or spelling patterns your child found difficult. Feel free to change what I have suggested. You can also look at and use spelling patterns that your child was unsure of in Spell well. You can do it in one go or keep returning to it for the week.

Maths: STEM activities- Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. These activities will encourage your child to use and improve their problem solving and reasoning skills. Great in many areas. The one I have attached here has a mathematical element- Data. 

Encourage the kids to find their own way to record and present the information as this is a problem solving activity. 3.       Your challenge: Write a secret sentence in Hieroglyphs and I will try to decode it J

Another activity is playing Hangman using Hieroglyphic letters instead of English letters.

You will need: 

Scrapbook, paper, copy etc.

Old photos

 Directions:

·         Stick old photos on the scrap book. 

·          Juggle with the photos’ alignment so that it looks like a photobilia (photo memorabilia)!

·         Write a caption under or above each of the photos. 

·         Each caption needs to differ from the other.

·         Keep the scrap book when finished.  

·         The English activity will not only strengthen composition skills, but creative writing skills too.
