Learning about the National Anthem

Something new I learned about my heritage is the meaning of the national anthem. I did not know that it was known as "Mexicans, at the call of war". It was written by Francisco Gonzalez Bocanegra. The national anthem was written in 1854. Even though it was written in 1854, it wasnt published till 1943. Another fact that I didn't know about the national anthem is that there was a contest to see who could write the best national anthem. The contest asked for poets to participate. The author was a poet and didnt want to participate but then later ended up doing it. A part in the lyrics talks about how the earth trembled when canons sound. Another lyric also states that Mexicans will be steel ready when war comes. I also learned about the certain reason it was written. It was written after the defeat in the Mexican- American war. After the were defeated, Mexicans felt like they were divided from others. With the national anthem , all of that was disregarded. The most important thing i learned about the national anthem is that the national anthem is described as a symbol of the " Mexican Identity." That means that the national anthem of Mexico shows what they had fought for.
