DAVAO CITY MAYOR Sara Duterte-Carpio remarked that if she wins the vice presidential election, all Filipinos over the age of 18 will be required to serve in the military to show their commitment to the country. Mandatory military duty in the Philippines is absurd, even if there is no guarantee that it will happen. Because there is a chance that hazing will occur throughout their duty, which is fairly common in the military and endanger their safety and well-being. Mayor Sara came up with this suggestion because it is happening in South Korea and Israel, two countries where war can break out at any time, which explains why male Koreans are drafted into the military to help their country.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio promised to advocate for mandatory military service for all Filipinos aged 18 and up should she win the vice-presidential election in May. It continued with the vice-president aspirant likening the proposal to South Korea and Israel’s mandatory military service, but unlike the two, the country is not “at war.” Despite possible discipline and readiness in case of war, the action if pushed through, will need to allot funds to the mandatory military service for a hypothetical war instead of current, relevant issues.

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte announced that she would declare mandatory military service for all 18-year-old Filipinos, regardless of sex, if she wins as Vice President of the Philippines. Duterte-Carpio states that she will use the Office of the Vice President to urge the House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines to pass such legislation. Many Filipinos are biased against the idea because they feel as though it is not necessary and are concerned for their own safety. Some parents believe that this is a great way to discipline their children and an admirable method that can be used to prepare for a speculative war. Although the idea has been implemented in other countries and the development is observed, doing so may result in the suffering of people.

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio proclaims that she will use the Vice President's Office to talk the Congress, House of Representatives into the approval of her proposal in the implementation of mandatory military service for Filipinos at and over the age of 18 regardless of gender if granted the position for the next election mentioned by her in a virtual caravan not long ago. Though making this mandatory can sound controlling of the Government, the benefits it gives can be of great help in terms of self-defence especially with young women nowadays in order to ensure their safety, and in the learning of values such as the paramountcy of discipline, patriotism, leadership, etc. Notwithstanding both sides of the coin, the majority of the citizens are likely to oppose the idea when it is not entirely necessary dissimilarly to Israel and South Korea's situations, just like how President Rodrigo Duterte's efforts of pushing for the revival of ROTC back in his first years as president in 2016 was unsuccessful and had no hope till now that the topic has resurfaced.
