Where did the belief system start? Judaism started in Mesopotamia.

When did the belief system start? The belief system started around 1800 B.C.E when god commanded Abraham to move his people to Canaan.

Who started the belief system? A -person named Abraham started the belief when he moved his people to the land of Cannaan.

Timeline Pt. 1

Around 1800 B.C.E- Abraham and his family left Mesopotamia and headed their way towards Canaan under the command of their one true god, Yahweh

1650 B.C.E- The descendants of Abraham moved to Egypt. They were given places of honor, but later on they were forced into slavery.

1300 between 1200 B.C.E- The time period when the Isrealites fled Egypt. The Jews would call this event, "the Exodus." The escape was led by a, Egyptian raised- Israelite born, Moses. Around that same time period Moses went on top of Mount Sinai to pray and came back with the ten commandments. These "laws' united the Israelites to Yahweh.

1020 to 922 B.C.E- The Israelites united under three able kings and created a new kingdom called Israel.

Timeline Pt. 2

962 B.C.E- David's, one of the kings, son succeeded by his son Solomon. He was the most powerful of the Israelite kings.

922 B.C,E- the kingdom had divided into two, Israel was north and Judah to the south.

586 B.C.E- the whole nation, Israel and Judah, were completely taken over by the Babylonians

The ten commandments are laws from Yahweh presented by Moses, these rules need to be followed to show faith in Yahweh. Males are to cover their hair to show respect to Yahweh.

To receive the promised land of Canaan. Yahweh punishes with foreign empires and rewards with salvation.

Belief

An ethical monotheism with only one God. The name of the God is Yahweh. This religion is seen as a contract to Yahweh.

Believers survived temptations of other Gods which kept their religion intact. Thanks to that, Judaism survived for many years and believers managed to spread to other areas other than Mesopotamia and Canaan.
