The role of the DVC is one that upholds the wairua of Māori currently in the university and those in the past.

I ask that the DVC have the ahua of the huia feather as they face the frontline for all Māori education. This ahua is special and rare, never forgotten and carries mana, and strong in symbolism yet fragile. This ahua is meant to be feather that acts as a pou. Let the kaupapa of being Māori preserve the wairua of the huia feather .
