Purple mushrooms don't seem to be very common - usually they're white or brown. Is there some advantage to having this purple color and how do the mushrooms make it? Do any other mushrooms have this color and all they all related to one another?

This is white like a mushroom but those little cup things look like a flower. And flowers are plants and all the plants I know are green and photosynthesize. Which is it? If it's a mushroom, why does it have flowers? And if it's a flower, why isn't it green?
