She uses multiple designs of communication by using google translate with her students that speak a different language than her in addition to keeping note of their progress of writing sentences in their native language & in English. She also has books available in her classroom in various languages.

This shows how she sees this as being necessary to build relationships with students.

Design: Allowing students to use their home language to show what they know - here, she designs the classroom in a way where they can use their languages even if she doesn’t speak them. This allows students to use translanguaging/their full linguistic repertoires. 
Creating scaffolds and translated copies of texts, allowing students to speak to each other in their languages but answer the teacher in English.
