Good afternoon WCCUSD Community,
The start of the 2021-2022 school year is just six days away. As we prepare for the return to 100% In-Person Instruction on Monday, August 16, we have a safety update about the Covid-19 vaccine requirement for staff and testing frequency for staff and students.
The health and safety of WCCUSD students and staff are our top priorities. We know getting the Covid-19 vaccine, and Covid-19 testing are two essential pieces in slowing the spread of Covid-19.
As a result, we are following the State’s lead and Contra Costa County Health Services recommendation by:
  1. Requiring staff members to show proof of the Covid-19 vaccine or to be tested weekly.
  2. Increasing our testing cadence to once a week for students and unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated staff members.
The Covid-19 vaccination requirement for staff begins Monday, September 7, to allow staff members time to get vaccinated. Weekly testing starts Monday, August 16.
In the Spring, 79% of staff members said they were fully vaccinated or had their first shot, and another 11% said they had their first shot scheduled or needed assistance in securing an appointment.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced the Covid-19 vaccine requirement for school employees earlier today in Oakland.
Last week at the Board Meeting, Contra Costa Health recommended weekly testing for students and staff. We agree and have adjusted accordingly.
County Health and the California Department of Public Health also stressed that reopening schools could occur safely with the proper mitigation strategies. In addition to increased testing and requiring staff vaccinations, we are following the County and CDPH guidance by:
  • Requiring masks to be worn indoors at all times by students and staff
  • Encouraging all those eligible to get the Covid-19 vaccine
  • Improving or upgrading the ventilation in classrooms and buildings that required them
  • Stressing the importance of hand hygiene (handwashing and hand sanitizer)
  • Practicing home self-screening (staying home when sick)
  • Continuing to practice physical distancing when possible
  • Limiting visitors on school campuses

CENTRAL COUNTY- Concord Concord Service Center 2047 Arnold Industrial Way, Far right side entrance to the building  The Service Center is a place for people experiencing homelessness to cool and hydrate. They have extended their hours to be 24/7 through Wednesday, 9/7 and will return to regular hours of 10 am - 4 pm for drop in services starting on Thursday, 9/8 Martinez Showers with the Bay Church Clean Start Program Friday, 8:30am NorCal Sports360 Ferry Street, Martinez .
WEST COUNTY-Richmond West County CARE Center-Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP)165 22nd Street Regular hours are M-F: 9 am - 3 pm and Sat-Sun: 8 am – 2 pm  Richmond- Bay Area Rescue Mission 200 MacDonald Avenue Mealtimes are 7 days a week. Breakfast: 6a-6:45am; Lunch: 12-12:30pm; Dinner: 5-5:30p. Limited number of "to go" bag lunches that are passed out after scheduled meal times, for those who miss sit down meals.   Will be passing out bottles of water to anyone who needs them all day long- go to 200 Macdonald Ave and ask for a bottled water. Water will be distributde them for as long as supply holds.  If someone is interested in getting into the shelter or transformational program, call at 510-215-4868 for more information and pre-screening.  NOTE: all guests must refrain from using drugs or alcohol while on the property. Also, they are unable to accommodate 290 sex offender registrants.  COUNTYWIDE CORE outreach will be the field doing water distribution and general wellness checks (while of course keeping themselves as safe as possible!). To connect with a CORE mobile outreach team, call 211 and press 3 to connected to dispatch. CORE is not a crisis response service. If someone is experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911.
