Self practice self-reflection (SP/SR) has many values for the clinician. Not least of which is an understanding of what it is like to be asked to complete the treatments that we conduct with our clients.

This week is all about your response to completing BA with the sheets given. I would like you to reflect upon your experiences by answering the questions in Box 2. Post your responses anywhere on the padlet.

1. At first I thought, why do I have to complete this again as we had already practiced BA on ourselves last year as part of the clinical modules. However, when I realised it was a different model of BA to what we had been taught and had practiced, I had a more open mind, and thought it could be worthwhile for me and my clinical practice. I felt content to give it a try, to see if I would learn anything new.
2. At first when monitoring my daily activities I found this easy, and fun at times. I did find at times though rating how important and how much enjoyment I got out of it got a bit repetitive and I found it hard to come up with ratings as I did not really know what to base my scorings on. When it came to the values and coming up with activities to meet the values I found this quite hard to do as I have not really had a chance to think of my values like this before. Once I had started to come up with values, however I found it got easier and could then come up with activities to meet those values. The hierarchy I found easy, as a lot of the activities I did anyway and found easy or they were routine. When planning in activities to meet my values, I found it easy to plan in those I already did such as coursework, yet those which I have stopped doing due to being busy with university work, I found it hard due to my busy schedule. The contracts I found hard to compete as most of the activities I did not need help with or were done on my own anyway.

3.I found I had to compete the task early in the week, otherwise I would not have had time due to my busy schedule, and coursework. I found when planning activities in I had to plan around my university, which left me little time to plan in extra activities for different values other than to get a good education and a degree. Another barrier I had was remembering to do the activities that I had planned which were not routine or that I had to do, such as things for myself. I found myself planning them in yet forgetting to do them as I got distracted by something else.

4.I found completing this exercise helped me to learn how another model of BA works, making me appreciate the importance of values when planning in activities. I found I realised I do a lot of activities for others or to promote my education and do little for myself and wellbeing. It has allowed me to consider that I should probably do more activities for myself, to find more of a balance in my life and not just do activities to promote my education or routine things I have to do. It did not really raise my mood, as it was not really low to begin with, but it did help me to see what activities I do in a day and how it relates to my values, to allow me to see which values I am following and which I may be neglecting.
5. I feel if I found it hard coming up with values and activities to begin with, adolescents may also find it difficult, as their mood may influence their ability to think about their values. In addition, I found it hard to rate activities in importance and enjoyment and my mood was average, so it may be harder for those with depression to have the concentration and patience to rate the activities. However, the model is useful at seeing which values you may be neglecting which may help those with depression to help them to see how they may be able to improve their mood.

1. I think it is a really valuable experience that I have had doing this type of BA as it is very different from the BA I learnt and diary I gave to patients. Never thought that BA can be focusing on looking at the values of different aspects
2. It was difficult in thinking of the values I have, as I never thought about myself in this way before. It was hard to be conscious about this.
3. I was not sure the things that I wrote down belonged to value or not, some of them sounds like rules for living for me. The most tricky thing was I having to decide whether I should have written a certain thing down or not. Some values are not satisfied and some situations are not able to change. This turns to be an acceptance problem instead of not fulfilling the value causing my low mood.
4.Reflecting on some values makes me sad as some are the values I carry but having no solutions to fulfill. However, for others I am actually able to work on it make me reflected on my daily routine. Making me understand how my behavior crushing my values.
5. I believe that this type of BA is very clear and definitely can help CYP to explore more about self. However, I believe having family and friends' involvement are essential in the sense of guiding them to think, also giving them confidence.

Martha abley mallett Being asked to do this makes me feel overwhelmed and frustrated. It's a very time consuming task but not complex, it just takes a lot of thought. It's difficult to scrutinise each day whilst wondering if I have remembered correctly. I don't like feeling like I might not be being honest. The biggest barrier is time which considering how many different events are on my daily list is not surprising.
The effect on me is mainly challenging myself on how I can be more value directed but wondering if this will have any negative effects.
My thought regarding young people filling out this form are the effects of filing in the form when they have little to put in it and whether that will lead to further feelings of negative feelings of self

1. At first I did not like the idea of doing this. I found it a bit nerve-wracking to think of everything I do in a day and my values being laid out and hoped it would not stir negative emotions.
2. At first it was difficult to remember to fill out the sheets, but once it became routine it was easier, though slightly monotonous.
3. The main barrier to completing this was remembering to do the activity and finding time either as I went along my day or at the end, and then struggled to remember exactly what I had done and when.
4. I felt the effect of completing this on me was to notice the level of time I spent doing things that were not benefitting me or my values, such as obtaining a good degree. While I realise that making these kinds of observations is the point of this exercise, I feel it made me feel very unproductive and pressured to think about my values and aims all the time.
5. I feel that while identifying activities that are benefitting you and your aims is a worthwhile exercise, I feel that it is not necessarily a straightforward link between completing this exercise and feeling better. I think a number of other factors may come into play and can see how this would work for some individuals but not others.
