Activity as a Child

Going to Disneyland helped me become more creative as a young child, it gave me the ability to have imaginative thinking and which helped me be more creative in when I was in elementary school.

Favorite grade of school

Although, I do not have many pictures of me as a child, my favorite year was when I was in 3rd grade. That year in school, I learned how to speak English and found that learning could actually be fun. Before third grade, I was only a Spanish speaker and Spanish was my first language. This year was my favorite because I was challenged with learning a new language and how I was able to master how to speak English within 3 years.

This picture represents how my years during Kindergarten through 3rd grade. I struggled with math and telling time. I remember my parents putting this show on for me and being able to better understand math and telling time through the Lunette the clown show. This showed me that learning comes in different forms not only in the classroom. I was able to learn through this visual television.

Teacher Support

Middle school was a challenging time for me, I finally grasped how to fluently speak English as a second language student. What really helped me pass my classes and continue to learn was the support and encouragement of some of my teachers. The extra support and understanding of teachers as an ESL student really encouraged me to do well in school.

Museums and Field Trips

Visiting museums and field trips have always been the things I looked forward to in school. Being able to visit the museums at Balboa park and going on field trips for example to Old Town San Diego or the US Midway got me interested in history. These field trips motivated me to seek new adventures, learn about different cultures, and to learn about historical events. These school events during middle school and high school introduced me to learning that learning is a part of our lives. As an adult I now visit museums all the time and it is one of the best things I like to do when I travel.

Sports, Dance and Exercise Activities

Something throughout my entire life that has always helped support my learning has been exercise. Exercising always helped me improve my performance in my studies all throughout my K-12 studies and still continues today to enhance my study performance.

Sleep

Sleep has always been essential to my learning, especially in high school. When I was younger I needed to sleep at least 10 hours to feel recharged to get all work school work done and also my afterschool activities. Sleep has always been essential for my learning and how I am able to be productive during the day.

Making Connections

What was essential for my learning during my years in high school was the connections I made. The connections I made with others helped me be more successful and confident in my studies. I was always communicating with other peers, teachers and the administration office and felt that because of that it is what helped me graduate high school.

Taking a Break

After high school I found that it was essential to my learning to take a break from school. I took this break to work, explore my interests, passions and explore new opportunities after high school.

Exploring new passions, opportunities and goal searching

I had a different outlook on life after taking a break from school after high school. I thought continuing my education was not part of my trajectory in life. Through this break, I was able to discover my new passions that include gardening, dancing, DIY building projects and being able to get really good a researching things. These new passions and interests are what sparked me to return back to school and feel energized and inspired to return back to my studies.

Internships

Having participated in internship opportunities is what really changed my outlook to want to pursue my studies in the field of education. I started an internship opportunity at Southwestern college and sparked a passion for me to help students through my work in the field of education. Being in an internship was a great way for me to realize if education was something that I wanted to study and work in and it was!

Traveling

Something that I love to do is travel, ever time I travel to somewhere new I get to immerse myself in a different culture. I learned about myself that I love to learn about new cultures, new foods and really learn the history of places that I travel to. I also find that after traveling it gives me a break from work and school and when I return I feel more energized and driven.

Nature and National Parks

Something I learned about myself during my higher education studies is that I love nature. I found myself having some mental health issues during my higher education studies and connecting with nature and going to National Parks was such a big help. Being able to connect in nature and going on hikes was such a big help in my higher education studies. Being able to visit any National Park at least once a year is such a big help in my mental health and a good recharge.

Movies, TV Shows, Video Games and Comic Con

Things that I really enjoy is watching movies, TV shows, playing video games and going to Comic Con. A movie that inspired me to pursue my master degree was legally blonde, although everyone thought that she would not be able to accomplish her goals she did which inspired me throughout the years. In addition, my favorite TV shows have been Sabrina the teenage witch, my favorite games have been Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider, Spyro and Crash Bandicoot. Every year I also like to go to Comic Con to nerd out with all my favorite comic stuff. These activities help me destress, gain better focus and relax from the outside world. The picture of me is from Comic Con last year.

Eating Good Food

Something that has always been helpful through community college and university studies has been eating good food. After a power study session with friends, family or peers it is always good to look forward to some good food after studying. This has always helped us stay motivated and get a good food reward after studying.

Family

Over the years what has kept me centered through my studies and struggles in life has been my family. Having my family by my side has given me the encouragement and the motivation to try to do my best every day. I learned about myself that I want expand my family and become a mother in the future.

Pets

My pets have been the center of all that is good in my life. They bring joy, happiness and love to my life. They opened a new lens in my life to have more patience, responsibility and they provided a healing presence during difficult times. They changed my view on time. I know I will not have much time with them they have showed me to enjoy the present moment and experience my life day by day.

Fiance

Being in a relationship with my Fiancé Frankie has been detrimental to my life. My partner has been able to inspire to to go back to my studies when I felt that I never wanted to go back. Being in a relationship with him has changed my outlook on love. I never knew I could love anyone else so much as much as my parents. Being in a relationship has greatly impacted me in all areas including my mental health, my physical health, having emotional support, lowered stress and having someone to motivate me. We both are attending Point Loma University and the opportunity we get to learn together in the same school has been such an impact for both of us.

Aspiring Future Goals

A concept or skill that has really changed my life has been to forecast and see myself accomplishing my future goals. Being able to aspire to become better and do better has been such almost the most important feature of how I have been able to accomplish everything in my life. My motivation, learning and aspirations come from being able to write down my goals on paper and actually try to achieve them. My goals throughout the years have been such an impact in my life keeping me focused, motivated and help me make better decision making in my life. Overall, from k-12 until now in my higher education studies my goals have been what guided me until this point and I find this to be such a great long term resources to always use.
