         <description><![CDATA[<div>I had a difficult time in middle school. I was outcasted by many of my peers due to coming from a lower income family. This influenced a decline in my learning and willingness to participate in class. this then resulted in me not being able to participate in sports.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was something that hit my family very hard. My father had also lost his job at the time. Emotionally I felt so preoccupied that I could care less about school and my studies. I was helping to take care of my mom, grandfather, and younger sister. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Things came back to a balance. I transferred schools so that we could be closer to family, and attended the same high school as my cousins. This brought some of my greatest memories in and out of the classroom.&nbsp;<br><br>I earned many ROP awards and was very active in my academics. I received the highest grades of my academic journey.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Graduating high school was one of the best moments of my academic journey. I felt that all of the struggles and adversity I had faced had come full circle. I had my sights set on attending a local 4 year university, and intended to teach elementary school in the future.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is where I hit my absolute lowest point in terms of my mental health and academics. I was struggling to work full and attend school full-time. I felt like I was failing myself and my family. My grades began to decline, and I ended up on academic probation. After this, I took a break from school and went to community college.</div>]]></description>

I knew what I wanted and how I would get there. Reflecting on my journey made graduation so emotional for me.
