Noah Webster, lover of knowledge, realized the education system needed to be updated from the old British one to his new American System. He wrote his own textbook, "A Grammatical Institute of the English Language". This book taught children to read years after the publishing in 1783. In 1806, Webster wrote the first dictionary for the English Language and defined words that were mainly common in America. Higher education was also offered to women by some colleges, such as Mount Holyoke (which not only admitted women, but was founded by a woman) and Oberlin college. Adult Education was also prospering due to speakers addressing small town audiences, and the formation of lecture societies.
