This is my third semester with Sam Houston and I love the library science program. I have learned so much in these past three semesters. It has definitely changed my view of librarianship and the impact it has on not just the students but the community as a whole.

Teaching

I have been teaching for 3 years at the elementary school I went to as a child in San Antonio. Teaching at that school is very full circle giving back to my community. I have taught 3rd grade for two years and 2nd grade for one year. I am always trying to learn from my school librarian and how she manages her library from circulation systems to community events.

Why I want to be a librarian?

Of course one of the main answers to this question is because I love to read books. But also what influenced me to want to become a librarian is the people that impacted me. Specifically my elementary school librarian Ms.Rivas, she always maintained her library into a comforting space. Her weekly read aloud where we gathered on the big carpet as she began her animated reading. I loved the way she made us feel connected to the story and broadening our palette of different genres.

Favorite Genre

Recalling back on my elementary school librarian and how she always showcased new books in her weekly read aloud. One genre that I was always interested in was fantasy. Reason being during the read aloud with my librarian she would always make each character come to life. Animating their voices to match the pictures or always engaging us into the story. One of my favorite genres that my librarian would read is fantasy and mystery. Hearing books like the Harry Potter series or the Nancy Drew series was fun to listen and to read on my own. Of course other genres like fiction, mythology, and graphic novels are enjoyable for any age. Which is what I believe reading allows for, to transport the reader into the story to understand other perspectives or provide as a mirror to the reader.

Travel

I also love traveling, especially cruises. I am going on a birthday cruise this summer so excited!

Dogs

I have two dogs one a dachshund named Winnie and a pitbull named Daisy. The one in the picture is Winnie and she is my little baby.

I love Marvel and this summer I am on the hunt for some comics to collect. I also love Italian food and making homemade pasta.
