I find that this self awareness module is a very interesting module as we are venturing more about ourselves and other individuals as well, on a professional platform. It allows us to better understand the motions of the people around us.

I would actually like to know more about emotional awareness, accuracy of self assessment and also build up my self confidence as an individual. In the next six months, I do hope I can be someone who is more knowledgeable in this 3 areas.

What are the steps needed to achieve this growth?
I feel that in my own support network, I can actually ask my close friends, relatives and family members to assess me as person. They would probably understand me better as they know how I am as a person before and after improving myself. For family members they would know my lifestyle and how I portray myself as an individual. They would definitely see the change as they are seeing me everyday. For close friends, it is evident that they would understand me more in depth, as i would share my problems and worries mostly with them too. They can eventually see if I have changed for the better or otherwise. Last would be relatives point of view. They don't see me as much as my friends and family members, so perhaps they could give me third party point of view and comments. In fact they wouldn't be biased in their comments as they are commenting based on what they see and feel.

When I was done with my DISC personality test, I was actually surprised to find out that my highest percentage would be on steadiness. I have the lowest percentage on dominance. Apparently I am a more steady person as compared to dominant. I can see that there is actually advantages and disadvantages to these strength and weakness.

Perhaps I could be assertive instead of dominant. I am not one who likes to be dominant as i feel it is better to be assertive and not dominant. As long as I am able to get the message over I don't find the need to be dominant in this matter.

I find that being steady may not always be a good point I suppose. Some people might not be able to keep up with the pace and might be pressurised at how I may run things. I may be too focused at doing things without considering how others might feel.

It is said in the DISC test that my listening, and empathetic behaviour making me a good coach. To be someone people turn to when they need help or advice. In this context, I actually feel kind of relieved that I am able to be someone people look for, when they do need help or advice. Being able to do makes me have a sense of fulfilment.

This week I learnt more about my personality as a person and some of my classmates personalities as an individual.

How a dominant person might actually tone down if we are able to open up and tell them how we actually feel at their pace. Not everyone is okay with a dominant person as they might actually some individuals with how they work and how they say their feedbacks. Some people might be overwhelmed and perhaps be hurt by the. To prevent this from happening, it is better to actually be able to talk about our pet peeves and hopefully be able to understand each other better.

It is actually kind of nice to be able to talk to others about our personality and share about other personality. Due to this online platform, there is bound to be some conflicts as we are not able to know if a person really meant it or not.

1) How was it like to share about your family with others and to hear about the stories of others?
Sharing about family has always been one of my insecurities. It was my personal space and I was afraid people would judge or people would say something about my family. However there was a complete different reactions I got from my small group of classmates. Some of them were even surprised that I grew up without a father. When i hear the stories about their families, I could somehow relate and empathise with them too. Not many of us have that luxury to have a complete family.
2) How did the session impact you? Were there any valuable takeaways that you had?
The session definitely made me think more about others and not whatever I see on the surface is what it seems. Some of us might be hurt during the process but all I hope is that my classmates are able to go through difficult times with their loved ones especially the ones we call family. There are days when we might have conflicts with one another in a family, but with each conflict, I do hope we are able to build stronger bonds thereafter.
3) If there were ways where you can enhance your family relations, what do you think is needed?
I feel that perhaps we could do more family gatherings even after this circuit breaker ends. I personally feel that this period is what made my family so much closer than before. I hope to be able to understand my siblings and mother more better so that I am able to be their listening ear and a shoulder to cry on if they ever need me. As an elder sister, it is definitely not easy to keep the family always happy, but I am willing to go the extra mile to understand my siblings and make sure the family is closer. This is so that in the future if I am not able to be with them physically, they can always rely on each other or perhaps be reminded of my advises from time to time.

Personal Fears
- Losing a loved one
- Fake friends
- Not being able to be there for my mother

What was a trigger that led to their fears?
- Fake friends
Knowing that they actually spread rumours about me just so that they can be with the other group of friends whom previously had misunderstandings with. I am always a backup for them when they need a friend to talk to or when they are being cast out of their own cliques. It is as if they are only friends with me for benefits only. They spread rumours so that I would have a bad name and not have friends

What helped them over the years?

I tried surrounding myself with positive group of friends. I am lucky enough to always find nice and genuine friends as I go through my education journey. It is definitely nice to know this group of friends are the ones with genuine feelings and I can count on them during my lowest point of life.

What has worked and what doesn’t ?

I mean I am not able to control when do I meet fake friends. They appear just like that, especially for those who just wants to be friends with me as they do not one to be left alone. However, I am someone who does not like to see someone being left out, so time and time again I would still let them in my circle.

So I just make sure I do not share my secrets freely. I become more self-conscious of what I share depending on the group of friends.

How do they cope to manage it currently?

I cope with it by having smaller group of closer friends. Friends that I know for quite some time. Otherwise it is always okay for me not to have deep connections with many of people. It is not the quantity that matters, it is the quality of friends that I can count on. I can be an introvert or an extrovert depending on the situations. I tend to be very cautious because I am not sure if the other person is genuine.

What would be a challenge they set for themselves?
A challenge I set would be, to be cautious I suppose? Trying not to be too fast in getting close with someone as it might backfire over time. Doing so, I do hope I will not encounter fake friends that has secrets about me to share it with others as it is personal.

How was it sharing about self through the last few sessions?

It was good and scary at the same time. I was afraid about people judging. It is never easy sharing personal past and thoughts with others especially when we have not met them or interact personally.

What was something that prevented them from sharing?
The personal barriers that most people have. Being afraid of the judgments or comments that may be voiced out.

How was it overcome?
Although it was hard, I braced myself trusting that whatever stories were share was kept in the room at all times. The nodding and assurance I get from classmates assured me that I am safe talking about my personal stories.

How do you trust people? How did you learn to trust this group?
When they are able to share their personal stories themselves, makes me more assured that I can trust them. I am sure it is not easy for some of them either. It take a whole lot of courage and confidence. Especially when sharing things that may remind them of a traumatic or depressing past.

Two huge takeaway from this module would be, getting to know my classmates and myself better. the process of opening up has never been easy especially for someone who has issues in sharing personal matters with others. I believe through this, I was able to know more in depth about some of them as they share most of their personal matters. their courage in sharing made me feel as though it was a comfortable and I felt that the room was a safe place to share my personal woes. Having said that, i was also able to understand more about myself, and i began to take note of people around me especially. some might show that they are okay upfront but in actual fact they have things that may be bothering them. Even if i am unable to help them solve their problems, i hope i could be better listener in the future. Through this module, I Learnt listening skills, can be so powerful in understanding another individual. I do hope I am able to understand people's emotions better as the time goes by.
