For the final wire replica, I will recreate the shoe posted above. Despite the details being someone small and intricate, I plan to incorporate them within the design if everything goes to plan. I think creating laces will be easy and I will struggle with larger areas like the base of the shoe. The hat in the section above is my original orthographic drawing for the initial assignment in class which I missed out on.

The idea behind my final wire project comes from the necklace my mom gave me when I was a young kid. I remember the night she gave it to me; I was having a nightmare and went into her room crying that I was afraid and she gave me this necklace to help my fear of the dark. I replaced the pendent of this necklace recently with an Italian cornicello pendent which was my grandmothers before she passed away. She always had flowers in her garden, and I decided a good combination between the element of light which my moms necklace gave me and the light flowers need was the gold wire which the flowers in my project are made of. This project emphasizes the importance my grandmother has in my life and how the pendent changing from my cross to this cornicello displays the new light shed into my life as I grow older and experience change such as deaths of my family.

I chose a tree due it is easily recognizable characteristics. I was walking to class and was thinking of what to connect with it when i noticed the cloudy sky and thought that a good aspect to fulfill the unexpectedness would be combining the upper portion of branches to a cloud and almost make those two objects one. This is an interesting composition that I believe can stand out within an environment like kresge, while also being an idea which can be over 6ft tall.

Inflatable Intervention (d2l submission didn’t work)

Our group created an inflatable stop sign that was mixed with the ideas of a traffic guard. The creation of the design was relatively easy as Kaiya made up the original idea of a stop sign and we all collectively agreed on the traffic guard arms and outfit. My major role in the group was to identify and scale our model to a real stop sign and create the cut outs which would accurately represent a real stop sign. Once the planning for scaling was complete, our group collectively chose different portions of the inflatable to seam and finalize. I created the the pole and arms while Kaiya and Michael worked on the red sign itself. Courtney helped create the letters for the sign and also assisted us all with the seaming process. We struggled with seaming the different parts of the sign together; but with a little cardboard in between the seams we didn’t want together, everything worked out alright in the end.

Artist Statement: Hands Sculpture

The idea behind my "uncanny sculpture" is the mixture of two organic elements, which are human hands and facial features. The two facial features I chose for the different hands are eyes and the mouth. The view of the sculpture is the perspective of looking at your own hands from a first-person angle and they melt together to combine at the bases' center. Placement of the eyes within the left hand will be randomly distributed and they will be caved out in order to show the three dimensional form of the eye and eyelid. The mouth will be put on the right hand and I plan to make a tongue coming outside of it. The clay sculpture was a difficult process as it was my first time molding an object of that material and the objects I chose require specific detail in order to be recognized. I struggled with the formation of the fingers and also with keeping the proportions to scale of that of a real human hand. For my final sculpture, I will adjust the width and length of the palms and fingers accordingly. I will shorten the palms length and width and increase the length of the fingers slightly.

CONTAINMENT: Artist Statement

The idea of containment inspiried me to make a form which contains the 'uncontainable.' This idea came to me in different ways, and I initially wanted to create a form which contained nature. I eventually made my topic broader by containing the atmosphere and began considering the subjects which could also be contained. From this, the idea to make a tree/bird house contained within the night sky was created. To contain, to me, is to take over and this is precisely what a bird does within a bird house. In tune with my previous idea of containing nature, the tree house was built to display the entrapment and also irony of a tree house (considering it will be hung on a tree). Any bird which steps into this bird house will be transfered somwhere new as they experience an enviornment which nearly parallels their own world, just at their size.
