Working on this task deepened my understanding of the importance of aligning sustainability with customer expectations. Peer feedback helped me realize how premium pricing could limit market reach, and I plan to explore segmentation strategies in future analyses. I also appreciated learning how competitors like Hilton challenge smaller players like EcoStay, underscoring the need for continuous innovation. Moving forward, I aim to apply these insights to better assess stakeholder dynamics in hospitality businesses.

Supré’s success in the fast-fashion industry highlights the importance of quick adaptation to consumer trends and the ability to maintain affordability without sacrificing style. A key insight from the research is the brand’s effective use of global supply chains to meet the rapid demand for trendy, budget-friendly clothing. Supré s reliance on fast production cycles and its strong engagement with its target audience through social media and influencer partnerships further solidify its position in the competitive market. However, the challenges of sustainability and ethical sourcing remain significant considerations as consumer expectations evolve.

References:

-Choi, T. M., & Cheng, T. C.

Brambles is a public company which operates in the area of providing shipping crates, containers, and packaging for rentals as part of the supply chain management. It was founded in 1875 in Newcastle, NSW, before moving its headquarter to Sydney since 1958 (IBISWorld, 2024). It participates in two sectors: pallet rental and container services. For pallet rentals, Brambles operates a pool system where customers will pass on the rented pallets to the next customer for reuse, thus allowing the supply chain to flow smoothly. For container services, it works in the same pooling system, and Brambles also provides it independently to end users. Currently, there are 13,000 employees working for Brambles, and workforce size has been increasing steadily.

Bakers Delight is an Australian-owned multinational bakery franchise chain, with franchisors in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States. There are over 700 stores worldwide, with Australia having over 500 stores. Bakers Delight first opened up in 1980 by Roger and Lesley Gillespie in Melbourne, Australia (Wikipedia, 2024). Bakers Delight operates in Australia, New Zealand, USA, and Canada, but operates in the USA and Canada as Cobs. Due to Bakers Delight's focus being on production of food, this places the business in the secondary sector of the economy. Bakers Delight (including Cobs) has employed over 15,000 people and serves more than 2.1 million customers each week (Cobs, n.d.). Bakers Delight customers would typically be identified as a B2C (Business-to-Consumer) customers due to Bakers Delight's transactions happening between the business and consumer's rather than other businesses (Torrens, 2024). Main customers of Bakers Delight include families and people wanting freshly baked bread/goods. Baker's Delight also has few B2B customers like the BCNA (Breast Cancer Network Australia) in which Baker's Delight creates featured baked buns with pink icing to represent breast cancer awareness, and Baker's Delight then donates all profits to the BCNA. So far the Bakers Delight has donated $27 million to date to the BCNA (Bakers Delight, 2025). Baker's Delight's main competition could include Coles and Woolworths due to their dominance of the 'fresh bred' market shares and consumer penetration. Statistics show that Woolworths has retained its title as Australia’s largest retailer of fresh bread capturing a market-leading 30.6% of the spending in the fresh bread market, and just ahead of Coles Group on 29.8% (Morgan, 2023). A key external stakeholder for Bakers Delight would be the Manildra group. The Manildra group is the preferred supplier of ingredients including flour, bakery mixes, canola oil and sugar used to make Bakers Delight sweet and savoury goods (Manildra Group, 2025). Manildra Group is an important stakeholder for Baker's Delight as they provide [the] resources to produce goods and services (Torrens, 2024).

References

Wikipedia Foundation.

Business Background

Share the Dignity is a charity organisation founded in 2015 by Rochelle Courtenay after she discovered a necessity to provide vulnerable women in our community with essential period products. The not-for-profit organisation operates around the country with its headquarters in Brisbane, QLD. Their mission is to ensure that everyone is afforded the dignity that they deserve and that is taken for-granted by so many. The charity raises funds through donations, grants, fundraisers and events such as their annual Digni-Tea's in each capital city and their tireless advocacy (Share the Dignity, 2025).

Customers

As the business operates as a not-for-profit, they don't have customers in a traditional sense but rather people that rely on their services. These people are vulnerable women, girls or anyone who menstruates in Australia and may be facing challenges such as homelessness, financial instability or domestic violence. Share the Dignity partners with local women's shelters across the country to dispense essential's bags and period products as well as with local businesses and schools to supply free-of-charge vending machines for pads and tampons (Share the Dignity, 2025).

Competition

While any competing organisations would ultimately be fulfilling the charities mission statement, examples of these could be other organisations that provide period products to women in need such as Tsuno who provide 50% of their profits for this purpose (Tsuno, 2025). Major retailers who donate or host their own drives for period products could also be seen as competition.

External Stakeholders

Volunteers (approximately 6,000 across Australia)

Communities

Partnering brands such as Woolworths and Bunnings

Regulators Government agencies who contribute to policy, collaborate with the charity and may even provide funding

Individual recipients of products

Those that support or donate

Shelters and other organizations who distribute donations

Yo-Chi is an Australian frozen yogurt and acai dessert business founded in Melbourne in 2012. The company started with its first store in Balaclava and has since expanded to many locations across Australia, with more than 30 stores and further expansion plans, including international growth. Yo-Chi operates in the hospitality and food retail industry and is known for its self-serve frozen yogurt concept where customers build their own desserts using different yogurt flavours and toppings. The brand promotes a fun, social atmosphere and focuses on fresh ingredients such as yogurt made from Australian cows’ milk.

The core business model of Yo-Chi is based on a pay-by-weight self-service system. Customers choose from several yogurt or acai flavours and a wide range of toppings, including fruit, chocolates and sauces. This customisation gives customers control over their dessert while also encouraging repeat visits. The company generates revenue through in-store sales, gift cards and loyalty programs such as the “Chi Club” app, which helps build customer engagement and brand loyalty.

The main customers of Yo-Chi are young consumers, including teenagers, university students and young adults. The brand is particularly popular with Gen Z and millennials because of its colourful stores, social media marketing and interactive experience. Many customers visit Yo-Chi not only for dessert but also as a social space to meet friends. Health-conscious consumers are also attracted to the product because frozen yogurt is typically lower in fat and contains probiotics.

In terms of competition, Yo-Chi operates in a competitive dessert and frozen yogurt market. Major competitors include other frozen yogurt chains such as Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt, as well as dessert brands like Gelatissimo and Yogurtland. Additionally, cafes, ice-cream stores and dessert bars compete for the same customers looking for sweet treats and social dining experiences. To stay competitive, Yo-Chi focuses on branding, store experience, product variety and strong social media marketing.

Finally, external stakeholders play an important role in Yo-Chi’s micro-environment. These include suppliers who provide dairy products, toppings and packaging materials. Local communities and shopping centres are also important stakeholders because most Yo-Chi stores operate in busy retail locations. Environmental groups and customers influence the company to adopt sustainable practices, which has led Yo-Chi to introduce compostable packaging and reusable bowls. Government regulators and local councils also impact the business by enforcing food safety, health and business regulations.

Overall, Yo-Chi’s micro-environment is shaped by its strong customer focus, competitive dessert market and relationships with suppliers, communities and regulators.

In this activity, I choose to analyse a local supermarket I often use - Coles. As a large retail enterprise, Coles' micro-environment contains many important stakeholders who will directly affect the operation and development of the enterprise.

First of all, the main stakeholders include customers, employees, suppliers and investors. Customers' needs and preferences will directly affect product types and price strategies; employees' work performance will affect service quality; suppliers will determine the quality and supply stability of goods; while investors will focus on the profitability and development prospects of enterprises. In addition, the media and the public also act as secondary stakeholders, which will affect the brand image of the enterprise (Torrens University Australia, 2024).

There may also be conflicts between these stakeholders. For example, customers want lower prices, but suppliers and enterprises want to maintain profits; employees want higher wages and better working conditions, while enterprises need to control costs. If these conflicts are not handled well, they may affect the operational efficiency and reputation of the enterprise (Cadle et al., 2021).

In order to effectively manage these relationships, enterprises need to adopt a balanced strategy. For example, reduce costs by optimising the supply chain, so as to provide customers with reasonable prices without affecting profits; improve employee satisfaction by providing training and incentive mechanisms; and strengthen cooperation with suppliers to ensure product quality and stable supply. I think good stakeholder management can help enterprises reduce conflicts and achieve long-term sustainable development (Cadle et al., 2021).

Reference

Cadle, J., Paul, D., Hunsley, J., Reed, A., Beckham, D., & Turner, P.

Business Background

Youfoodz is an Australian meal delivery company that provides fresh, ready-made meals, snacks, and beverages directly to consumers. Founded in 2012 in Brisbane, Queensland, the company operates within the food and meal delivery industry. Youfoodz aims to provide convenient, nutritious, and affordable meal solutions for busy consumers seeking healthier lifestyle options.

Customers

Customers are a key component of Youfoodz's micro-environment. The company's primary customers include busy professionals, students, families, fitness enthusiasts, and individuals looking for convenient and healthy meal options. Consumer demand for healthy eating and convenience has increased significantly, creating opportunities for Youfoodz to attract and retain customers. Understanding customer preferences is essential for developing products that meet changing dietary requirements and lifestyle needs.

Competitors

Competition has a significant influence on Youfoodz's operations. Key competitors include:

Lite n' Easy – A well-established Australian meal delivery service offering healthy, portion-controlled meals and weight management programs.

HelloFresh – A meal kit delivery company that provides fresh ingredients and recipes for customers to prepare meals at home.

These competitors challenge Youfoodz by offering alternative meal solutions and competing for the same customer base. To remain competitive, Youfoodz must continue to focus on product quality, convenience, pricing, and innovation.

Suppliers

Suppliers play an important role in Youfoodz's success. The company relies on food producers, farmers, packaging suppliers, and logistics providers to ensure the consistent supply of fresh ingredients and packaging materials. Strong supplier relationships help maintain product quality and reliability while reducing supply chain disruptions.

Government and Regulators

Government agencies and regulators influence Youfoodz through food safety laws, consumer protection regulations, and workplace health and safety requirements. Organisations such as Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) ensure that food products meet safety and labelling standards. Compliance with regulations helps protect consumers and maintain business credibility.

Industry Groups

Industry groups such as the Australian Food and Grocery Council provide support, advocacy, and industry insights that can assist businesses like Youfoodz in responding to industry trends and regulatory changes.

Community and External Stakeholders

External stakeholders include local communities, investors, employees, and environmental groups. These stakeholders influence business decisions through expectations regarding sustainability, ethical sourcing, food quality, and corporate responsibility. Maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders helps strengthen Youfoodz's reputation and long-term success.

Conclusion

The micro-environment significantly impacts Youfoodz's operations. Customers, competitors, suppliers, government regulators, industry groups, and other stakeholders all influence the company's ability to achieve its goals. By effectively managing these relationships and responding to changing market conditions, Youfoodz can maintain a competitive advantage in the growing meal delivery industry.

Conducting a micro-environment analysis of Youfoodz highlighted how strongly external stakeholders influence business success. One of the key insights gained was the importance of customers, as their preferences for convenient, healthy, and affordable meals directly shape the products and services offered by the company. The analysis also demonstrated the significant impact of competition, particularly from companies such as HelloFresh and Lite n' Easy, which encourages Youfoodz to continuously innovate and maintain high standards of quality and customer service.

Another important insight was the role of suppliers and regulators in ensuring product quality and food safety. Strong relationships with suppliers help maintain reliable operations, while compliance with food regulations builds customer trust and protects the company's reputation. Additionally, the analysis highlighted the growing importance of sustainability and stakeholder expectations in influencing business decisions.

Overall, this analysis reinforced the idea that businesses do not operate in isolation. They propose different kinds of movies to give everyone access to a variety of films to satisfy their needs. It could be anything from children's movies to horror movies and many others. It also allows customers to adapt their choices regarding the day and the time they would be interested in, which instantly creates customer satisfaction and the desire to come again. During the movie, customers can also enjoy popcorn, different snacks, and drinks to satisfy everyone's needs.

Cineplex South Bank, Micro-environment

Customers: The customers come to enjoy a great time with friends or family and discover brand-new movies that have just been released. Therefore, the cinema targets families and groups of friends who enjoy watching movies and spending quality time indoors, especially in case of bad weather. It also offers a variety of session times, which allows customers to choose the screening that fits them best.

Competitors: The main competitors are other cinemas such as Event Cinemas, Palace Cinemas, and many others that are located close to Cineplex South Bank. If the cinema does not keep customers satisfied and loyal, it could lose them to its competitors. Another major competitor is streaming platforms, which can convince people to stay at home and watch movies instead of spending money at the cinema. For this reason, Cineplex must prove that going to the cinema is not only about watching a movie but also about creating memories and enjoying a unique experience.

Suppliers: Suppliers play an important role in customer satisfaction because they provide the movies, snacks, drinks, and other products that contribute to the overall experience. They help cinemas differentiate themselves from competitors. Without suppliers, cinemas could not operate properly or provide a high-quality experience that enhances customer satisfaction and feedback.

Management: Cineplex Australia is a group with different locations that offer the same service. Therefore, it is important to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction because a bad experience at one location could negatively impact the brand image as a whole. For this reason, management must ensure consistent service quality across all locations. The group also offers different price ranges and movie formats (2D, 3D, etc.) for various customer segments, including students, children, and adults. This helps expand its target market by making the cinema experience accessible to a wider range of people.
