One Characteristic of an open world game is content, to be a proper open world you have to have loads of content. Like loads of quests, things that happen like vampires attacking a town.

Another characteristic is Graphics, In open world games the graphics are good. When you see a trailer they try to show off the graphics by adding gameplay to the trailer.

A third characteristic is Story. An open world game has to have a story otherwise you can just be wondering around doing nothing. For example kill something that is trying to end the world. Like the races dragon god of destruction.

A fourth characteristic is Mechanics, you have to have boss fights that are challenging. If not then the game will just be too easy.
A fifth characteristic of open world is random encounters, like dungeons or wolves that attack you on the road.

Fps stands for "First person shooter" meaning the player is locked in first person as they play, shooting guns at certain things/enemies. Fps counts on frames per second, meaning the refresh rate of the monitor. 30Hz usually isn't acceptable but 60Hz and above is smooth and the higher the refresh rate the better. There tends to also be a lot of texture/graphical aesthetics put into the game as this is how the developer advertises the game and they want player to mask in it's "awe" as they play while enjoying the aspect of the main game it's self.
FPS also gives the feel of having a real weapon and how it actually sounds, feeling the force feedback on the controller as recoil. Gore and violence tends to be a major factor to attract people in, especially when accurate. The world would need to be spacey and full of things to interact with so the player doesn't get shot, or get upgrades.
