According to my grandpa, Fred, when he was 8, him and his family moved here because of my great-grandpa's half brother. He (my great-grandpa's brother) was in World War 2, and when it ended he went to California and worked at General Motors. He then told my great-grandpa that it would be a good idea to move to the U.S. and he could work at General Motors. But my great-grandpa wanted to make his own business. So they were sponsored by his half brother and the whole family got green cards and were driven from Chihuahua, Mexico to California.

Yes, it was hard to leave Mexico, and all of their friends, but other than that, my family faced minimal challenges along the way to get to the U.S.. Because my great-grandpa's half brother had a good position in his company, and he was a U.S. citizen. The Korean War was from 1950-1953, and my grandpa's family came to the U.S. in 1952. Even though the Korean War wasn't good for the U.S. economy, my family didn't suffer at all from it.
