At this moment in the book Rachel starts going through an 'awkward' phase. She might actually be just changing. Most people in their lives change at least one time. Maybe it is from a past trauma or something good happening. But here Rachel is changing to be like everyone else, or at least that's what it seems like. The theme in this story could be that people change in a snap. I said this was the theme because Rachel has been changing her personality a lot in this book.

At this moment in the book we see that Rachel thinks that black women are not as pretty as white women. There are 3 exceptions though. But from this quote, we can see that Rachel is forming her own opinion. She might think this because maybe her classmates/ and or friends think that is true. This goes with the theme that people can change in a snap, because Rachel just formed a big opinion that can change how she feels about certain people.
