Being part of the camproh committee was a valuable and memorable experience. When I first joined, I didn’t realize how much I would learn. I faced many challenges, like figuring out my job responsibilities and feeling like others weren’t helping much. I also sometimes felt judged by my fellow members, which made things harder.

Over time, I started to adapt. I learned to handle problems, take responsibility for my duties, and improve my social skills. I got to know new people and made great friends. The role also pushed me to try new things, which helped me discover and develop my talents.

Even though it was tough at first, I eventually enjoyed the process. The challenges taught me important lessons, and the good moments made it all worth it. If someone asked me whether I would join the committee again, my answer would be yes without a doubt.

The Polterabend Custom, Germany

The Polterabend is a traditional German pre-wedding custom where guests smash porcelain and ceramic items to bring good luck to the couple. This act symbolizes resilience and teamwork, as the couple works together to clean up the shards, reflecting their ability to overcome challenges in marriage. Beyond its symbolism, the event fosters a sense of community, bringing together friends, family, and neighbors in a lively celebration. In a world that often feels disconnected, this tradition provides a meaningful opportunity to reconnect and create shared memories.

However, modern critics argue that the Polterabend may no longer fit contemporary lifestyles. The act of smashing porcelain generates waste, which can be seen as environmentally unfriendly. Noise and mess can also be disruptive, especially in urban settings. Additionally, some couples prefer minimalist or modern celebrations and may find the tradition impractical or out of place. The cleanup, while symbolic, might add unnecessary stress to couples already juggling wedding preparations.

Despite these concerns, the Polterabend is a valuable tradition worth preserving with thoughtful adjustments. Couples can replace porcelain with biodegradable materials to reduce waste or host the event in designated venues to minimize disruption. These modern adaptations maintain the essence of the tradition while addressing environmental and logistical concerns. Ultimately, the Polterabend remains a heartfelt celebration of unity and resilience, carrying timeless lessons that can enrich marriages for generations to come.
