The Concept of Single Note

This concept of a single note in music is used for emphasis. Ratliff explains that artists use one type of note in certain songs that maintain a steady and constant beat at the same pitch throughout most, if not all of the song. Artist use this trait purposely too add more emphasis to the rest of the song and it's other qualities. For example, the artist could be wanting to put more emphasis on the lyrics while still providing a steady and enjoyable beat. The artist could also just recycle a set of about three notes, or chords, and make a repetitive yet effective setting for the song. This might allow the artist to, perhaps, set a base or foundation for the song while the other instruments or set of sounds truly build the rest of the song to its climax and eventually its conclusion. I agree with Ratliff view that this can be helpful tool in music. This can be an effective tool to use when wanting to focus on a certain aspect of a song.

If you really listen the base of this song is built of only 3 notes. Everything is built off of those 3 notes. It helps emphasize his vocals and the drums and other angelic sounding noises to help one understand the meaning of the song.

Joji, or George Miller, uses the single note technique a lot in many of his songs. He focuses a lot on his techniques as in an interview when he was asked about the beat of "I Don't Wanna Waste My Time" he says, "I personally love the texture of the track and I really try to make my instrumentals and vocals sound as organic as possible." This confirms what he wants to emphasize in his songs.
