Communication is a basic of life that every people used every day in their life to interact with others. Ever since we were young, we communicate subconsciously as if it is a natural habit of ours but little did, we know of the fundamental and types of communications we relay to others. But while going through the learning unit 1, I realized that there are many types that I use every day which is interpersonal communication, intrapersonal, mediated interpersonal communication and small group communication.

First, I usually used mediated interpersonal communication in my life. As student which currently doing an online class, we mostly using social media such as WhatsApp to communicate with others student and lecturer to get the information. This social media platform makes our life easier as we can communicate with our family and friends who far from us.

Second, I used interpersonal communication and small group communication. I usually used this communication with people in my house which is my family and friends. Third, I used intrapersonal communication to reflect about myself and motivate myself.

After going through this learning unit, I started to assess the way I communicate with others and find out if I was conveying the information in an appropriate manner. I realized that I am fast spoken person. I noticed that this was a bad habit of mine. It would made someone have an impression of impolite towards me. Normally when I having a conversation, I realized that I am fast spoken person which it will make my communication is not clear and this situation may lead to misunderstanding.

Furthermore, I realized that communication applies when we converse through social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and so on. Before this I don’t care about my spellings, grammar, and greetings while having a conversation through social media. Also from learning unit 1, I learned that improper communication could lead to consequences. For instance, if you don’t place proper punctuation in a sentences, it would have a whole different meaning which would lead to a misunderstanding. This is bad and having a proper way to conversing is advisable. Communication is really important to every people without communication how could we get the information and interact with people. By having an effective communication skills are an advantage to me to get ready for my future career and I realized how it is key to life. I realized how important an effective communication skills are an advantage to anybody.

Interpersonal communication skills are fundamental in every aspect of the day to day life. These include the way we talk, the gestures we make, the tone of our voice. Interpersonal communication is our ability to communicate well with others is important to personal and professional success. Interpersonal relationships may lessen our loneliness, gain self-knowledge and self-esteem, enhance physical and emotional health and maximize pleasures and minimize pains. Communication leads to friendship, and those who have friends are happier.

I’ve experienced this stages model of relationship in terms of love relationship. First stage is contact whereby we exchange basic information and interact with each other. In this stage, we see got the personal looks like and sound like also get a physical picture of that person. The second stage is involvement, which this stage we increase time together to get know each other and reveal more about yourself. In this stage, our relationship tries to learn more about each other. Next stage is intimacy whereby we establish a relationship. We communicate becomes more personalized and easier. In this stage, our relationship can be honest and open taking about ourselves in our relationship.

After a few months, our relationships enter to deterioration which our relationship is not important as we had previously thoughts. Our communication patterns change whereby we communicate less and text infrequently. Finally, I decide to dissolution our relationship instead of repair as he had betrayed our relationship. That's how I experience the six stages in relationship.

There are types of interpersonal relationships which is friendship, love relationship, family relationship and work relationship. I have experience this types of interpersonal relationship.

For instance, in terms of friendship. When I was nine, I meet my friend whereby also known as my cousin. Since then, we always together in high school until we finish Malaysian Higher School Certificate. We do everything together and listen to each other’s secrets. But sometimes we had an argument. After that, we hardly spoke to each other. I didn’t like this kind of situation. Therefore, I decided to say sorry first. After we go to different university, we still communicate with each other even once a month. I felt like she always available with ears that truly listen and remind me that I’m not alone in my journey. Furthermore, the more we share ourselves, the more deepen these relationship.

In our day to day life, there are many conflicts occurred. In my own experience, I’ve always been one avoid conflict. It is because conflict makes me uncomfortable due my past conflict and had seen my parents had conflicts before. The conflict may lead to harsh communication which affect the entire family. Growing up and dealing with conflict, I have faced difficult obstacles and I believe it has prepared me for the conflict. Overall, I learned a lot about interpersonal communication which are crucial in our daily life as we use it in our personal and professional communication.

When I first started this course, I thought of group communication primarily of just a group of individuals trying to achieve a certain goal by working together. As I reflect, I learned a lot about group communication, particularly group environment and interaction, which is working well in our group.

My group does an excellent job of developing and maintaining a positive attitude toward our assignments and the supportive atmosphere in which we work. My group members, for example, were usually full of praise and encouragement, saying things like "we can do this." They're putting in a lot of effort to keep our group positive, and it's working. Outside of class, I'm looking forward to seeing my group members to go lunch or dinner together. There is no defensive climate in our group. Everyone was doing their best to help us solve our difficulties and participate in the conversation. First and foremost, I am really satisfied with my group.

At first, I figured out that my group was going to be pretty good as we all got along party well, we all wanted good grades, and we knew what it would take for us to achieve those good grades. My overall thoughts about my group are that we all could depend on each other even though we all have packed schedule, and that is what made me realize that “being dependable” was key to the success of our group.

The first thing I need to work on is improving my listening skills. For example, sometimes during the group meeting, I can’t really catch up the key point of the conversation. As a result, I am unable to provide feedback and comments when our group requires it. So, in order to be a more effective listener, I need to be prepared to meet my group and ask some spontaneous questions. In order to connect with group members, I also need to use more nonverbal communication such as body language and eye contact.

Group communication is critical as I found it is helps me to adding my knowledge towards my major and anything in the business world.
