After their victory they all gained a realm, Zeus was given the Sky, Poseidon was given the seas and Hades was given the Underworld. The Underworld was the unseen realm where the souls of the dead go upon leaving the world as well as any and all things beneath the earth. Hades didn't like that he got the underworld but he dealt with it and lived there. Her abduction represents her function as the personification of vegetation, which shoots forth in spring and withdraws into the earth after harvest; hence, she is also associated with spring as well as the fertility of vegetation. Hades asked his brother Zeus for permission the marry Persephone and Zeus allowed it but her mother Demeter didn’t like that one bit and wanted her daughter back, so she talked to Zeus and he sent Hermes to go and get Persephone but it was to late because she had eaten 6 out of 12 fruits from the underworld so since she ate 6 she has to stay in the underworld for 6 months and the other 6 months she can go to Mt.
