When it comes to Artificial Intelligence in today's world, there is not much of anything that has not been reached by its long arm, and the entertainment world is no different. The influence it has had, and will continue to have, is one which sparks thoughts so assenting yet some that can be more controversial than ever. It can be used for a unanimously agreed upon reason , such as improved recommendation systems on services such as Netflix and Hulu. Or on the other end of the spectrum, when these new technologies begin to replace those who held jobs as voice actors. Other uses can even fit into a grey area where the debate will rage on for a while longer. Instances such as the DeepFake technology that has now become essentially identical to that of a real image. AI can be used as a tool to promote the growth of ideas, but can also be the end of other opportunities.

Throughout this Wall there will be countless examples of how amazingly helpful this newfound power can be, since overall the positives do outweigh the negatives (in my personal opinion) , there is so much more good to speak of rather than dwell on the ever so obvious faults. I have personally only benefitted from AI now being integrated into the entertainment world, and the only issues I have come from when industries clearly abuse the use of AI.

The entertainment industry has changed vastly, and for all audiences as well. This affects the youth and the elderly, the film nerds and the book worms, even the gambling addicts and the Call of Duty legends. They will all feel the changes which the new age of AI has brought upon us.

After you have finished watching “The Sixth Sense” on Amazon Prime, various other movies from Shyamalan popped up waiting to be queued up. Even more so there are other movies eerily similar in feel, such as “The Game”, all waiting for the user to select. This is an experience for anyone who has ever utilized any sort of streaming service. From Peacock to HBO MAX they all use recommendation systems that AI have introduced forever into their systems. This AI uses memory based filtering systems which is made to find similarities between various items, as well as to find similarities from user patterns to other user patterns. These recommendations are a very welcomed feature AI has brought along, and helps anytime there seems to be nothing to watch! Until you wind up spending way too much time watching movies…

AI has done lots of great things for the gaming industry, such as enhancing our Virtual Reality immersion, and improving the average NPC dialogue experience throughout RPGs. While these are all invited services, what comes along with this AI use is it becomes too handy for developers. Now that there is AI technology that can completely erase the purpose for voice actors, it has already taken many jobs across the industry. Even instances I have personally been affected by, where in Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Activison has shown just how greedy they truly are with this new text to speech technology. Various voice actors that are integral to the games storyline have been released, due to the actors refusing to allow Activision to replicate their voice with the use of AI. Essentially this will wipe out an entire sea of jobs for people, and I am unsure of how it can be rectified. While this technology is fascinating, it should not be removing people from their jobs.

DeepFake technology has now become so advanced that oftentimes the user cannot tell the difference between what is computer generated versus the real life human being. The program works by first gathering information to collect all the images and videos of the person trying to be imitated, without this step the AI has a near impossible time and the result is much cruder. After being given the dataset it needs they utilize Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) which is a deep learning algorithm to generate the altered media that is desired. DeepFakes are now the preferred method to render faces as opposed to CGI effects. This is due to CGI having a more dead eyed stare, compared to the DeepFakes which give more humanness to the model. These models now surpass the uncanny valley that many CGI faces have previously suffered from escaping.

Ethics and AI are two things that will be forever bound together, since it is an ever advancing technology which will have to allow for new rules and regulations to be put in place seemingly on the fly. These issues arising are also growing ever more serious, as the threats of identity theft, fraud, and even mass misinformation have been spotted more frequently then ever. On the news there is constant coverage of things that are completely fabricated, since nowadays it is more difficult to determine what is reality and what is not. Steven A. Smith and even our President Donald Trump have both famously fallen for misinformation that was spread due to the AI technology that has become so realistic with DeepFakes as well as the voice impersonation. That is the major issue, if the leader of the greatest country in the world falls for fabricated stories, the rest of us are bound to either do the same, or we will do the worst option, which is to believe someone just because they said it. In a world such as the one we are in today it is of utmost importance to always be fact checking, and to never believe what you may see or hear on any sort of media.

The new AI voice also must not begin to take over the voice acting job supply, as if this class of work falls it will set another precedent for the takeover of our jobs by robots. Regulation of AI should be on the government's radar increasingly, as the issue will only expand as time progresses…

In our society today AI plays a role that grows larger everyday. Whether it is harming the job force, or taking our information and data, the role it plays is rather harmful. Though as previously stated there are more positives than negatives, but AIs relationship with society is not a good one. Even at the core simple view, AI is not a fair resource to be given out. All of those in poor areas of the world, or less developed countries have far worse access to these technologies. So the AI only benefits those who are able to use it, and those it helps it also hurts in the crossfire of all the other issues tagged along with it.

Our privacy has been at an all time high when it comes to being disrupted. The overall online safety of an American has seen significant detriment over the past years. What once started at accepting “cookies” now has led to a massive uproar as to what really happens when we grant access to these websites and technology. We are in the midst of the greatest example to date, with the upcoming ban of TikTok in the United States, all because the Chinese government has somehow tapped into the American users data, all through the one app.

There is a clear vision for the future of AI, and it is a messy one. It will always be around and “helping” society move forward, yet it will also be the reason our pre-existing society will never be the same.

Artificial Intelligence is a force that humankind has never been met with before. We have been used to being the supreme intellectuals on planet earth, but now that is untrue. Though we are the most intelligent beings, the intangible AI has us beat out in all categories. Though I do believe this to be true for knowledge and factual thoughts, I do not think the same for our world of entertainment. Entertainment is meant for us to relax and enjoy ourselves, but with AI now in the miz we have this constant fear for our data and privacy, as well as the job security of many in the field. AI is welcomed to aid our life, but not to hinder it.
