... Is their ties to their past. Russia is very power hungry. However not very progressive with what this world has thrown at them. What Russia has failed to realize is that, holding on to old views is what is holding them back. Russia is very prideful and that gets in the way of what is best for their country.

While Russia is an important country in regards to it's relations with the U.S., Russia has somewhat been put on the back-burner. The U.S. is aware of it's significance when it comes to nuclear relations, however Russia is not seen as a current threat. The U.S. is now more focused on higher communist countries such as China.

U.S. relations with Russia have toned down in intensity, but the tensions that have always been there continue to stay in place. However the priority has lessened.

Russia's hunger for power is what strains relations between the U.S.

....This is because as a Soviet Union Russia felt in control. Russia has been on this back and forth roller coaster of trying to accept western views. Some Americans are very skeptical that Russia will adopt these views. The PTSD from the Cold War has put a very negative view on Russia. The threat of nuclear attack has not been easy to overcome.

However there are those Americans who remain optimistic about Russia becoming a normal state like the rest of the west. They keep hope that Russia will embrace the idea of democracy and join the rest of the west.

...The U.S. and Russia bother emerged from WWII as the countries with the most power at that time. However, there were several factors that made the return of those two countries vastly different. One of them being the casualties during the war. The U.S came out of that war with very light casualties compared to Russia, who suffered nearly 20 million casualties, including civilians.

As the war ended, the U.S. emerged out of the great depression and turned into a thriving democracy. While Russia was still dealing with a rise in soviet power.

The root of unrest within Russia and the U.S. has been their "philosphical world view".
The U.S. believes in a political democracy with a capitalist economy. While Russia believed in communist authoritarianism, with a socialist economy. Red vs. Blue.

The choice to make a change..

...Was a step in the right direction for Russia. Their plan was to keep soviet socialist thinking, however they wanted to improve, but not destroy their socialist economy. When this became public in 1989 Russia was joined by the USSR, who had seceded from the union. However we see that Russia was not prepared for this change, their economy was not stable enough to thrive under conditions they were not familiar with. Within the fall of this damaged country we see a figure whos name we know all to well emerge.. Putin. "Putins strength, is that the Russians prefer stability to democracy".

This is the story of two countries (Russia and the U.S.) who have been on high tensions from the beginning..

.....This rocky relationship dates back as far as the founding of the American Republic. The tension has stemmed from several instances, one during the American revolution, and throughout history into WWII...

Russia is the country that has had a hard time keeping up with Major Power countries, both economically and politically. This struggle has put a strain on that country and has limited their resourcefulness as a nation. Russia did "peak" as it were during the during the Cold War as a soviet union. Which in comparison to the capitalist U.S. they would have seemed to surpass us. However in the early 70's Russia saw a decline in their socialist economy. Simply put, socialism just stopped growing within their nation.
