What should I do if I see a tick on my pet?

If you see a tick on your pet there are a couple of things you need to do. First if it hasn't bitten your pet and was on the fur of the pet just remove and dispose it by either burning it with a lighter, or flushing it down a toilet or sink. If you find that it has already bitten your pet then you should get a clean pair of tweezers and remove the tick by its head. Try not to squeeze the body to prevent infection. After that put antibiotic ointment. Then dispose it the same way as above.

There are a lot of ways to prevent tick bites. First thing is to know where you might expect to find ticks. Put tick repelling substances on your cloths and skin like diet which needs a 20-30% concentration. After going outside check your skin, clothing and other parts of your body for the presence of ticks. Wear white or lighter clothing to see ticks better on you. Get a company to treat your property for ticks.

There are many ways to prevent tick bites on your dog. First thing you can do is check you pet for tick daily by just softly feeling across the skin and looking through their fur. If you find one on your pet burn it. Have your heard treated with tick killing chemicals. Get your dog flee and tick medications. This can be in the form of a collar, pill, or some sort of applied solution on the skin. And try and avoid areas with tall grass or other forms of tall vegetation.

Why should you contact your doctor if your pet is diagnosed with a tick borne illness?

If your pet is diagnosed with a tick borne disease we urge you to contact your doctor. This is due to the fact that you and your dog were most likely in the same place with the same general population of ticks. This could mean that the pathogen that got into your dog is possibly within you causing an infection. Your doctor might do blood tests on you and might put you on precautionary medicines depending on what illness your dog has.
