A nice short tale written by the German author Wilhelm Hauff in the early XIXth Century - reedited and rewrittent by Eli for the "Junge Lektüren" collection, a serie of short books adapted to young German readers as well as beginners. It contains difficult words' definitions in German (not always easy), a
few exercises between each chapter and come with the audiobook version.

Or you can try to find articles in German on the internet. Good thing about the newspaper : it contains more pictures and advertising, and will give you a better idea of what German culture is like in case you've never been to Germany. Also, it comes every week so it won't consume too much of your free time.

Good Bye Lenin is a famous German movie taking place in Berlin during the fall of the USSR. It's a poetic, politic, smart and entertaining movie. I watched it the first time with subtitles in English, a week later with German subtitles, and eventually without subtitles. It's a good exercise to make yourself familiar with an authentic german conversation between natives.

Playing "Gravity" on Quizlet is a good way of spending time learning German without really noticing. The game could really be improved, especially the graphics, but it is quite entertaining anyway. I recommend playing roughly half an hour before going to bed or straight in the morning while enjoying a warm bowl of porridge. It doesn't take long and the game is designed to give the impression it's not repetitive. Extremely useful for vocabulary in my opinion !

"Frau Holle und andere märchen" is also part of the "Junge Lektüren" collection. It contains three tales written by the famous German story-tellers the Grimm brothers. I found it a bit harder than "Der Zwerg Nase" but still very good, with a varied vocabulary and extremely nice drawings. I definitely recommend these two books.

I was looking for German music on the internet when I found this German rapper, not too bad, although it feels a bit strange at first to listen to rap music in a foreign language - but we get use to it. It's extremely hard to understand a full sentence but if I focus a bit I can identify, here and there, a word I know (extremely satisfying). I have also discovered an singer named Franz Josef Degenhardt who made some translated covers of a French Artist I like and I listen to it with great pleasure. I think it's a good way : find a German artist who covers your favorite songs in German and read the lyrics online !

Buying a second Arbeitsbuch

It's good to have a second Arbeitsbuch. Take it with you everywhere and take it out your bag whenever you have an opportunity. I have personally chosen an Assimil one for post-beginners because I find it really well made, with a few colours, a lot of exercises and explanations about German grammar. I found it quite useful to break the routine of the Arbeitsbuch we had to buy, which I find a bit plain and a bit too "functional" in my opinion.
