The island of Alcatraz is a big rock situated in the Bay of San Francisco . During the Gold Rush, in the mid 19th century, a fortress was built on the island to defend the city .The fortress later became a military prison.
From 1934 to 1963 this prison was turned into a federal penitentiary where dangerous prisoners were sent to be disciplined  like the famous Al Capone.
However , in 1962 , three prisoners managed to dig a tunnel out of the prison and swim away. They were never found, and probably drowned or were killed by sharks.  Today, the island is a museum. It is part of the Golden Gate Nationsl Park, which opened in 1972 and is visited by 16 million visitors a year.

It is a typical example of San Francisco. It was used for the first time in 1873. Of the 23 lines established between 1873 and 1890, only three remain . The tourists often use it because it's one the best way to discover the city effortlessly. It's very old and small with a lot of windows  and travellers sometimes are standing up.The inhabitants of San Fransicso don't use it because it's not fast enough.

One of the best-known groups of "Painted Ladies" is the row from Alamo Square park. This block appears very frequently in media and mass-market photographs of the city and its tourist attractions and has appeared in an estimated 70 movies, TV programs, and ads.

It’s one of the best sandy beaches in the USA. The beach lies on the shore of the Pacific Ocean in the northwest of the city. It is roughly a half mile (800 m) long, beginning just south of Golden Gate Point (where the Golden GateBridge connects with the peninsula). The northern section of Baker Beach is "frequented by clothing-optional sunbathers". As such it is considered a nude beach.

It's a shopping center and popular tourist attraction built on a pier. At Pier 39, there are shops, restaurants,  street performances, the Aquarium of the Bay, and a resident colony of 1,000 sea lions that has been basking in the sun on the docks of the marina for more that 20 years.
 The pier is located at the edge of the Fisherman's Wharf district and is close to North Beach, Chinatown, and the Embarcadero. The area is easily accessible via the historic F Market streetcars. From the pier one can see Alcatraz or the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Art Deco suspension bridge was inaugurated in 1937, it’s more than 2 miles long and is recognizable for its red color.  It connects the city of San Francisco to Marin county.
The pedestrian walkway is a very good way to enjoy the magnificent views across the Bay and out over the Pacific Ocean.  More than 120,000 cars cross the bridge each day.

 The mission district is the oldest district of SF. It ows its name to the 1st Spanish Mission in 1791. Throughout the Mission, walls and fences are decorated with «Murals» and this is very touristic.

One of only a few surviving structures from the Exposition, it is still situated on its original site. It was rebuilt in 1965, and has got a lagoon and walkways.
The Palace hosts art exhibitions and remains a popular attraction for tourists and locals. It’s a favorite location for weddings and photographers throughout the SF Bay area.
