         <description><![CDATA[<div>This element points at understanding how communications media work. Like he state's, it's  "the nuts and bolts of how to communicate in digital networked environments"(p. 209).<br>Although a lot of us are known with the basic media such as twitter, facebook and LinkedIn, there are a lot of other tools that are interesting and we tried in these first two weeks: for me google communities was something new and this padlet is one of the first I created. <br>Also, topic 1 made me more conscious of the explicit choices I make when using digital tools. Which suits best the purpose you have with it, and how to use it?</div>]]></description>

As teachers engaging in a joint international online course, it is important to take the differences in digital learning environments into consideration. Also students may be used to using twitter in one way (with a certain language/tone/vocabulary), and may need to approach twitter as an educational tool in another? </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>According to Belshaw (2011: 213) the 'critical element of digital literacies' "involves the reflection upon literacy practices in various semiotic domains. Who is excluded? What are the power structures and assumptions behind such literacy practices?"<br>This really is something to chew on... Digital tools are especially helpful to those who know how to work with them. But others, less literate persons, may be excluded. And what persons and companies benefit - almost invisible - by the use of the tools. Is that what we want?</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This element is about the understanding of using digital tools as cognitive tools, as "a focus upon a variety of mental models and lenses" (p. 208). It is about realizing that instead of talking about truth or falsity, it is about "another way of understanding the world" (p.208).&nbsp;<br>For me, this refers to respect to other views and ideas, and to the idea that being digital literate is about becoming more than a 'digital immigrant' (p. 158), it's about getting a step further than using digital tools as extension of the 'pre-digital' tools.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The creative element of digital literacies is about doing new things in new ways. Producing Powerpoint presentations instead of writing on a blackboard is not essentially different. Using digital techniques opens up for a reconceptualisation of what is possible when we create new knowledge. Therefore Belshaw thinks we should be brave as teachers and perhaps think "out of the box".</div>]]></description>
