For younger students, belonging can be going to a new school and a group of kids invite you to their friend group. To an adult, it can be you being invited to share your experiences within the class and instead of being judged, your peers interact with what you are saying. Adult learners usually are those who are juggling work, family life and school. Some haven’t attended school in a while, and they are looking for advancement in their career or thinking about changing their careers. There are some who may have taken a break from their degree and are returning to finish or there are some that didn’t go straight to college after high school and decided to go into the world to start life. Either way, they are sense of wanting to belong while starting their educational journey is high and is expecting to be able be in a safe environment to share their experience while completing their journey. Transformative learning theory helps them with this journey they are taking. They are able to take their experiences and see it in a new light (Transformative Learning Theory, n.d.). They grow through reflection on their past decisions and make changes, so their future is different. Andragogy theory says that adult learners are ready to take action in their learning journey. They are internally motivated to complete what they started (Esthermsmth, 2017).
