Karadzic was the president of the illegitamate Bosnian Serb Republic. Karadzic was known as the "founder" of the genocide. Karadzic once told a group of journalists that "Serbs and Muslims are like cats and dogs. They cannot live together in peache. It is impossible." (Bosnia-Herzegovina). The Bosnia/Kosovo Genocide goal was to eliminate a part of the Bosnian Muslims, where in which the Bosnian Serbs had the idea of. This quote demonstrates that Karadzic first said this quote and it shows that Karadzic wanted the Bosnian Muslims to be gone. If two groups cannot live together,  in Karadzic's mind, one must go therefore resulting in the genocide.
Also, Ratko Mladic was a chief of staff of the Bosnian Serb Army was captured in May 2011 and was charged with 11 counts, including genocide and crimes against humanity.

The genocide lasted approximately 3 years. This Genocide was mostly between the Bosnian Serbs and the Bosnian Muslims where a lot of the Bosnian Muslims were killed. In July of 1995, as many as 8,000 Bosniak men and boys were killed from the town Srerenica by Bosnian Serbs. It was the largest massacre in Europe since the Holocaust.

Then war breaks out and the Serbs are under the leadership of Radovan Karadzic. They occupy 70% of the country and killed Muslims and Croats to carve out a Serb Republic.

1993 - Peace efforts fail and war breaks out between Muslims and Croats. Some areas are declared as "safe areas" and attacks stop but towns remain isolated.

1994 - US ends Muslim - Croat war and creates a Muslim - Croat federation

1995 - Bosnian Serb President Radovan Karadzic orders Srebrenica and Zepa to be cut off and aid to be stopped from  reaching the towns. Bosnian Serb troops, this time under the command of General Ratko Mladic capture the eastern "safe area" and kills about 8000 Muslim males. The NATO air srikes against Bosnian Serb troops then 3 leaders of NATO sign the Dayton peace accords in Paris.

1996 - The west forces Karadzic to quit as Bosnian Serb president. Nationalist parties win first post-war election

1997 - Karadzic lost power and goes underground

2002 - Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic goes on trial charged with 66 counts of genocide and war crimes in Bosnia, Croatia and Kosovo

2003 - Court knows Milosevic knew Bosnian Serbs planned to massacre Muslims in 1995.

2006 - Milosevic was found dead in his jail cell in The Hague.

Investigations are blocked and leaders continue to rule until they are forcefully driven out of power and flee. 

Denial still exists in Bosnia, over twenty years after the genocide occurred. Bodies were hidden and there were claims made that the Muslims killed each other.
