The American Psychology Association did a study and found that yes, the video games have, in fact, desensitized the youth to violence in the real world. They found that "Entertainment violence feeds a perception that the world is a violent and mean place" and that "Viewing violence increases fear of becoming a victim of violence, with a resultant increase in self-protective behaviors and a mistrust of others". Although the video games can change the way children interpret the world, it does not have a direct link to them acting out violently as some people claim. Studies have been done to try and find a link between video games and real violence, however Patrick Markey, a professor of psychology at Villanova University, brought up the point that "90% of young males play video games... Finding that a young man who committed a violent crime also played a popular video game, such as Call of Duty, Halo, or Grand Theft Auto, is as pointless as pointing out that the criminal also wore socks." No strong connection has been found.
