MANDATORY: Why do you want to be a nurse? When did you decide you wanted to be a nurse? Did anyone or anything influence your decision?

I want to be a nurse because I've always loved the health and medical environment, so, I decided to become a nurse because this job allows me to take care of ill and fragile people. I took this choice during my last year of high school, when I really had to think about my future and what I would have done for the rest of my life. Nobody influenced my decision but surely my personal experience has influenced this choice because my grandmother was sick of senile dementia and I had to assist her until the end. This experience made me understand how much the ill person is suffering and defenceless and needs help so I decided that I would dedicate my life to take care of those who need.

The article that I chose is about acute poisoning in pediatric patient that arrive in the Emergency Departments. I'll develop my thesis on this topic because I had the opportunity to observe and treat many several similar cases during my training in A&E. This article is an international multicenter cross-sectional prospective study that wants to show the differences about pediatric acute poisoning in different countries and regions of the globe. The main goal of this study is to try to find effective strategies to reduce the occurrence of these events. The results show that, globally, the most common mechanism of acute poisoning among pediatric patient is the unintentional ingestion of therapeutic drugs and household products. So the article emphasizes the importance of behaving aware of the risk to prevent this from happening through good surveillance systems and conscious behaviors such as, parental control, limiting exposure to pesticides and the amount of medications prescribed.
