On December 7 1941 the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service launched a surprise military strike on the United States' naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. 2,300 Americans were killed, 1,100 were wounded, and 19 ships sunk including 8 battle ships.This event caused the United States to join the allies in WWII.
