This exercise brought to my attention that a teacher is a facilitator and a person who guides students through their learning experience. We also did a Mojui Island lesson too which I particularly enjoyed. It encouraged students to work together with specific roles, and it incorporated the content of renewable energy in a fun and interesting manner. Collaboration was a key teaching tool we discussed. Activities like think-pair-share definitely are effective and useful in a classroom. We also discussed show me boards, iPads and Padlets and how they can be used appropriately in class. Then the lesson we carried out was to investigate whether coloured food made good indicators. Again this was an enjoyable and totally different angle of teaching indicators than I would've thought. Ideas like a Question box, and Idea Wall, place mats and Traffic Lights were discussed. These tools can be used effectively to asses a students learning and to address any problems a student may have if they do not feel comfortable speaking out loud in class about their problems! This lecture also provided us with the closer-colder activity which was probably my Favourite activity! This activity made students think about the Earth in terms of seasons, sunlight and daylight. A concept that is very much realistic in everyday life! It was a very interesting and challenging task that stimulated students to think more about the Earth and space and the movement of the Earth around the Universe. We moved on to discuss about learning designer and how it can be extremely efficient when planning schemes and even lesson if necessary! Then the task of making timers was introduced. Scientific language was introduced in this lecture for example, the words hypothesis, statements etc. Students were told what a hypothesis was and how people ask questions and make logical hypothesis based on their observations. We then moved on to carry out an animal research task. This task essentially asked of the students their thoughts and opinions ans whether their ideas were based on logic or emotion.
