A useful resource focussing on map reading. Easy to navigate, with a range of interactive activities including; a race across the continents game, map reading quiz, information on using compass points, and an engaging video on map reading.

This would be perfect for children to work through either with guidance within a lesson, as homework or even in their spare time as self-guided learning.

The resources are aimed at children, and are visually appealing so will hold attention easily.

NASA climate kids is a free website for children to access games that have strong links to deepening children’s understanding of climate change. It explores issues such as greenhouse gases, coral bleaching and introduces a Time Machine game, which shows children in a child friendly way why will soon if climate change action is not taken soon. It’s a fun interactive resource that allows children to understand important topics in a way that makes sense to them.

This website while helping children learn about climate change, it also as sections for teachers and for parents so they can find resources and activities to use to help the children in their care learn about climate change.

BBC bitesize links with national curriculum because it covers where places are and their features. It covers Europe and the Americas which are essential places to cover on the curriculum. It has modules on latitude and longitude, videos on continents and ocean along with locational information about the UK which all link to the curriculum.

It can be filtered by year group, its based on UK curriculum because its produced by BBC, British Broadcast Communications (Government body).

It is very clear, with visual representations.  Each topic is highlighted with a picture to represent that topic, along with subheadings and descriptions to help them find the appropriate information.

• Degree to which web site could be used to support an enquiry - based approach

Pupils can look between the appropriate topics and find the topic which suits their enquiry. They can also play the quiz, which consolidates their knowledge.

I found a volcano Top Trumps which would be great to print off then have the children play with. You could even stick them on a world map in the correct places after.

It has resources for all the key stages and sticks to the national curriculum. It would also help with lots of different enquiries by having interactive activities for the pupils to get involved in.

We like this resource as it is easy to navigate, bright and engaging. The resource has lots of information, games and videos about rivers and canals in the UK.

The site focuses on the key concept of place; it can allow children to relate and make sense of both in real life.

Appropriate for support or an introduction to defining what both things are, could be used in an opening lesson for a new unit of work. More aimed towards KS2 as it has quizzes at the end of both pages.

Could be used to support enquiry on settlements around the children, makes it more relatable to them.
