My group's film was about a stalker who stalks a girl through the school before being caught and being beat up. Overall, I would say our film and presentation was a success with very few mistakes. The only thing I would change about our film is that there were a few spelling errors in the captions and the sound effects in the scene when the students fought the stalker sounded very fake. What I really liked about the film was the fight against the stalker at the end and the sound effects throughout that added to the suspense and thrill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-COkaPKV9c

Overall, I would say our film and presentation was a success with very few mistakes. The only thing I would change about our film is that there were a few acting errors in the movie.
Genre and Presentation Reflections

List of genres: Action, Adventure, Animation, B movies, Biopic, Comedy, Crime, Documentary, Drama, Family, Fantasy, Historical, Horror, Indie, Musical, Mystery, Romance, Sci-Fi, Sports, Superhero, Thriller, War, Western, YA. We also studied the conventions of each genre, the stories, character and their representations, setting, iconography, values, their codes, cinematic elements including camera work, lighting, editing and special effects, and audience expectations, emotions, reactions to these various genres. For each genre we watched 3 movie clips from 3 different time periods that highlighted each genre. Some of the films that were listed were hybrids, which were combinations of genres, such as action-adventure and adventure-fantasy.

The genre for our 1st movie was horror and our 2nd movie was horror-fantasy. In the 1st movie, we conformed to horror movie conventions by using a stalker killer as our antagonist whose goal was to hunt and kill someone. In the 2nd movie, we did something slightly unusual for a fantasy-horror movie, with a guy who suddenly gets magic powers and struggles to control them, accidentally killing someone. Most of the camerawork was pretty basic, with cuts separating most of the action. The audience was pretty impressed with both of our movies.

My personal favorite genre is horror. A potential movie we could make could be a horror movie where the people have to escape the haunted forest before they are caught. The movie will open as the credits fade off the screen and we see them hiding in the forest scared while they look for a way to escape. They see an opening in the forest and bolt for it while whatevers hunting them chases after them. Jump scares, quick shots, and large houses are conventions in typical horror movies. I don't think a house is necessary for my movie but it would be hard to not use jump scares and quick shots.

1. A one or two sentence description of the first two minutes. What happens? A montage of clues that there is a serial killer on the lose including missing posters, kidnapped kids, and a suspicious van.

2. What is the genre and who is the target audience for this film? The genre is horror, the target audience is guys 15-45.

3. Describe the opening credits and title sequences, including any company logos or idents. When do they appear? What color/font are they using? How does it "align" with the opening of the film? Anything else you notice? It says the production studios without any logos and all the text looks vintage adding to the aged look of the opening scene.

3. Describe it visually -- a shot by shot breakdown that includes type of shot/movement, if any. It cuts between missing posters, kidnapped kids, and a suspicious van.

4. Describe the sound -- another "sound by sound" of the entire two minutes. The sound is very low and base like.

5. Describe how you felt at the end of the two minutes. Did you want to know more? What was left hanging, if anything? What questions do you still have? Yes, I was curious what happened to the killer and the missing kids.

6. How would you describe the editing style in this clip? Any particular editing techniques you noticed, or length of shots? There was lots of smash cuts.

7. How did these first two minutes adhere to conventions? The edits looked a lot like usual edits used in horror movies with a lot of suspense.

8. How did these first two minutes break with conventions? The trailer didn’t focus on any single person it cycled between a few kidnapped kids.

9. How did these first two minutes represent social groups or people or issues? It represented the issue of kidnappings, serial killers, and human rights.

10. Why do you think this film was distributed on this particular site? YouTube is well known for movie trailers.

11. EXTRA CREDIT: Any other thoughts or comments or realizations you had about film openings after viewing this clip? I thought that the movie was worth watching because there aren’t a lot of other horror movies about kidnappings and it’s an interesting topic.
