"short, sharp" the use of alliteration emphasizes the sudden and abrupt sounds that Magne makes,. The effect of the technique is to make the reader aware of Magne's excitable and energetic character using auditory imagery.

"scooting gallop" Magne is a massive and muscular animal, the use of the adjective "scooting" created an image of him bolting from place to place which suggests that he is robust and powerful.

Behavior of Mange
"detached" the use of the verb "detached" suggests that Magne is quite sensitive as he displays jealousy of the baby gorillas. This makes him appear interesting to the reader as it shows that he displays acute human emotions. 

"bit my ears carefully" the use of the adjective "carefully" is effective as it demonstrates that the author wants the reader to consider how carefully Magne bit Lary's ear despite all his incredible strength and might. This shows that Magne is  not as aggressive as the reader may have interpreted him.

“Surge of muscle”: the noun “surge” suggests that Magne suddenly lunged at Lary forcefully, flattening him down. This further reinforces Magne’s muscular physique and emphasises his impressive and robust strength. 

“Marlin spikes”: the use of this simile creates an image of Magne’s sharp and deadly canines in the reader’s mind, which makes him or her sympathise with Lary’s fear of this deadly beast who could easily tear him apart. 

“Carefully: the use of the adjective “carefully” is effective as it demonstrates that the author wants the reader to consider how carefully Magne bit Lary’s ear despite his might and power. This shows that Magne is not as aggressive and excitable as the reader may have interpreted him.
