During his junior year at Rutgers in October 2010, LeGrand tackled his opponent, but upon impact, broke his neck.

He immediately lost movement and sensation from his neck down.

October 15th marked the eighth anniversary of this tragic accident.

    In fact, the higher the injury to the spinal cord, the more damaging it can be to your body. Eric LeGrand broke his 3rd and 4th cervical vertebrae, which is just below the  atlas and axis.
