Stage 1: Trust Vs Mistrust

The first stage can be a major point in a baby's life and can make the key points later on in life. This important stage is what either gives or takes away the trust of whole is raising them. If no trust is gained in this stage then all in life you can have trust issues. During this stage I never had any problems going with other relatives. Because of me seeing them and spending a lot of time around me I grew trust with all of them. "Securely attached babies have learned to trust not only their caregivers but also their own ability to get what they need".

In the second stage a child is discovering independence. If over controlled or not given the chance to insert themselves the child will start to lack self esteem. Around this age I was able to walk around places and see what was happening without my parents by my side every step of the way. "Because unlimited freedom is neither safe nor healthy, said Erikson, shame and doubt also have a necessary place".

The third stage is more on growing your friendships and what role you are taking in them. Such as leadership like making plans in things. Personally I never had those qualities of making the plans for everyone to follow. "Children who fail to live up to behavioral standards may feel guilty, that is, regret their behavior, but they do not necessarily feel a lack of self-worth as when they feel ashamed".

In the fourth stage finding that talent that you picked up just before everyone else and got complements on how well you did that thing. Around this age I took an interest in art and most of my family were saying that my art was good so from then on I was known for doing the most with art in the family. And to this day is getting art supplies for birthdays and Christmas. "If children are unable to obtain the praise of others or lack motivation and self-esteem, they may develop a feeling of low self-worth and thus develop a sense of inferiority".

The fifth stage is finding your identity and what makes you, you. And looking into your future and the things you want such as marriage and having kids. In between this time frame going into high school I never took an interest in anything for more than a few months. But freshman year everything changed from the music I would listen to, to questioning my sexuality multiple times. All of this felt like such a long time ago but was just 4-5 years. "Adolescents who resolve the identity crisis satisfactory develop the virtue of fidlity:sustained loyalty, faith, or a sense of belonging to a loved one or to friends and companions".

In the sixth stage you are looking for that long term relationship and have that commitment and safety. At this point I started to see more people in relationships and pick out what I would want and what I would not what in a relationship. As its the beginning of this stage for me I don’t see a relationship as any part of my life and can’t see it in the future unless I find the absolute one. "Early adolescents think primarily about how a relationship might affect their status in the pee group and pay little attention to attachment or support needs".
